LOS ANGELES -- The 2025 Oscars are officially here.
Conan O'Brien is hosting the 97th Academy Awards, which honor the best in cinema from the past year.
"Emilia Pérez" leads the field of nominees this year with 13 total Oscar nominations, just one shy of tying the record for most nominations by a single film held by "All About Eve," "Titanic" and "La La Land."
"The Brutalist" and "Wicked" follow closely behind with 10 nominations each, while "A Complete Unknown" and "Conclave" round out the top-nominated films with eight nods apiece.
This year's show will honor the city of Los Angeles, showcasing its resilience in the wake of the wildfires that left at least 29 dead and destroyed thousands of homes.
The Oscars ceremony is live on ABC now and is streaming live on Hulu for the first time.
Follow along below with updates throughout the night, and check out all coverage of the 2025 Oscars here.
Adrien Brody...Winner for the Best Actor...”The Brutalist”...
“The Brutalist” was OK...A long movie...
His second Oscar for Best Actor...He won his first Oscar for Best Actor in 2003...”The Pianist”...Roman Polanski directed that film...It was a good movie...
Congratulations to Mr. Brody...He had a long speech...He did talk about dealing with “hate” at the end...He did speak out against anti-Semitism...
Sent to friend in Maine
Who won best actress or was it called yet?
It is coming out in May...I intend to see it as well...
Sean Baker...Best Director Award for "Anora"...
That's good. I haven't seen it but intend to.
Broadly, this has been a very pleasant surprise.
The political commentary has been VERY muted for the Oscars.
The speeches have been, in general, tasteful. Some rambling -like the ones who just landed 3 hours before the broadcast. Overall, a B-.
And the REAL shocker? The commercials were better than the ones for the Super Bowl.
A special award to Conan.
Mikey Madison...Best Actress Award..."Anora"...
I feel bad for Demi Moore...She is 62 years old...This may have been the best chance for her to get the Oscar...
It was pretty funny. But man, the 2nd half of the movie was non-stop F-words
It was entertaining.
But man, the 2nd half of the movie was non-stop F-words
Sounds like Glengarry, Glenn Ross.
Daughter in law as Audrey Hepburn and grandson dressed as a toddler version of Bob Dylan both won prizes! ;)
I told our son that he looks more like Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn from the Star Wars franchise. I have no idea who this Paul person from Dune is. Been awhile since I’ve paid attention. I’m glad the kids had fun with their friends.
Oscar who?
Haven’t seen a movie in years, except some old ones on Netflix.
Friend saw Wicked and loved it. The Critical Drinker, who does the funniest possible movie reviews online, pans everything, thought that Wicket was a good movie. I’m seeing it Thursday.
All the other movies nominated for an Oscar probably suck bigly and I don’t intend to waste one thin dime on them.
"Anora" won the Best Picture Award...
I was thinking maybe "Conclave" would win the Best Picture Award?
About "Conclave"...Some FR members warned about the film...I did watch it in any case...
Out of 4 stars...I would give "Conclave" 2 1/2 stars...Ralph Fiennes did a good job...But, the ending of the film was strange...
The guy, who was elected as Pope, told Dean Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) that he has uterus...He stated that he had no idea until a doctor told him a few years ago...It is called "intersex" condition...
Well Russia will be happy with the Anora nods. The Oscars are a huge a deal there even with just Americans in contention. I was there once during one.
But from a purely culture critique and female perspective, esp after Poor Things last year…not liking the kind of work actresses get anointed for. Pretty Woman it is not.
I thought the movie paints Russians in a bad light, not that I’ll see it.
I agree with you...
That speech by people who made a pro-Palestinian documentary...I found that speech really annoying...Other than that, other speeches were not annoying...
Yeah it depresses me. I spent 8 hours in a theater once watching Bondarchuk’s War & Peace — and attended screening of every Tarkovsky movie during a series with a friend.
Just…won’t be seeing Anora ever. Sad whether it’s Russia or here. Just trash being celebrated all around.
Alright! Better than what I read about the other contenders.
Two actors from this film were nominated for Oscars...None of them won...
I did watch the film in the theater...Just an average movie...No big deal...
Remember this film is not meant to be a documentary...In the film, Donald Trump gets really rough with Ivana Trump..."Rape"...Both of them denied that the incident ever happened...
