Single mothers left in charge of 1 in 3 Russian households

Almost a third of Russian families have been abandoned by their fathers, the Kremlin revealed yesterday, contradicting President Putin’s claims to have cultivated a society based on traditional Christian values.

Anna Kuznetsova, Russia’s leading official for children’s rights, said that of 17 million families with at least one dependent child, single mothers were the sole breadwinner in five million.

Ms Kuznetsova, an anti-abortion mother of six who was appointed by Mr Putin last year, also said that another 600,000 families had no mother at home.

Russia has the second highest divorce rate in the world, with 4.8 for every 1,000 people each year, according to government figures. The Maldives have the highest, at 10.97. Half of all marriages in Russia end in divorce, with infidelity, poverty and alcohol cited as the leading causes in a survey by the VTsIOM state pollster. It costs £9 to divorce if both parties agree.

Absent fathers are obliged by law to make child maintenance payments but avoidance is widespread. Russia’s strict residency laws mean that women who relocate are unable to place their children in state nurseries.

When all those children grow up, Russia is sure to turn communist again. It happened here...

...many widows left behind and even fewer men to go around, after the last two “Great” wars greatly reduced the “surplus population” of men.

One third of children in America live in a fatherless home. That's about the same as Russia.

WWI, Russian Revolution, Collapse of the Soviet Union. Lots of generational trauma there. Imagine a Russian family going back all the way to 1914. Now their sons are being sent to the meat grinder in Ukraine.

OH NO!!!

If we send LOTS OF MONEY AND WEAPONS AND MEN THERE...then those fighting for Russia will get home faster and save the day!!

You’re a genius!!

zeepers are the best! They keep me in stiches :)

Putin’s bad news but he’s pragmatic...at least a lot more than W europe is these days with muslims overrunning it and ordinary folks getting arrested for talking correctly about insane stuff like “transgenderism” and other nonsense.

Condoleeza protege? I’m afraid so.

Iraq wasn’t enough.

Let our boys AND our society survive...even with the damage your kind has done economically and to our men in uniform.

There’s still time and hope with Trump

ciao

“When all those children grow up, Russia is sure to turn communist again. It happened here...”

That probably would have been true a few years ago as the USAID work was starting to turn the younger generation in Russia into Leftist activists against their stoogy old-timers who kept claiming that the West was out to destroy them. Oh well, those efforts were negated by many of the statements by Western leaders regarding Russia, and of course with USAID going away.

So I don’t see that happening there. Now here in the US, of course, we’ve already got that and it’s called the Democrat Party.

GPT says 69.4% of households with children < 18 have two parents present. Pretty close to Russia’s numbers.

That’s far better than most American cities

The “cursed” capacity for suffering.

The war in Ukraine is existential to them. They'll continue to "suffer" until they reach their goals.

have been abandoned by their fathers

In all cases?

Did the mothers never abandon the fathers, or throw them out of the house?

When you have kids not raised by a loving and caring mother and father you will have a problem.
Parents can hate each other and not even live together,
but Kids need stability, or they wander off and lose it.
They find stability somewhere.
Whether they find it at another home, gangs, military, or school, they will find and adopt it.
Those kids will grow up and society will have to deal with them.
