Putin unleashes Iskander-M missile attack to 'sink container ship in Odesa carrying cargo of British weapons for Ukraine'

Vladimir Putin unleashed a missile strike to 'sink' a cargo ship amid unconfirmed Russian claims it was carrying British weapons for use by Ukraine.

Two Iskander-M ballistic missiles hit the Panama-flagged container ship MSC LEVANTE F - reportedly Swiss-owned - soon after it arrived in Odesa on March 1, after making a stop in Turkey.

Two port workers were believed to have been wounded in the strike, which also damaged infrastructure, Ukrainian reports said.

The report of the attack comes as British prime minister Sir Keir Starmer today hosts Volodymyr Zelensky and other European leaders to discuss the future of the wartorn nation following the Ukrainian president's televised spat with US president Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.

Russian Telegram channel TalipoV [sic] Online Z claimed that the vessel was loaded with drones and weaponry that had been collected from a NATO based in Turkey before being transported to Odesa in Ukraine.

However, the channel is run by pro-Putin, Crimea-based blogger Oleksandr Talipov, who was charged with 'nation-based enmity against Ukrainian citizens' and hate speech by Ukrainian prosecutors in 2022.

Tapipov said: 'It was established that in Turkey the ship loaded additional containers of two colours on board - red and yellow - which contained British sea drones and weapons from the Turkish NATO base.

'Upon arrival at the port of Odesa, the ship was hit by two missiles at berth number two at 18:00.

'After the strike detonations began, the cargo was completely destroyed, the ship sank.'

I'm not sure why the first sentence contains scare quotes indicating Putin's intention to "sink" the ship. It's a little like saying the Titanic allegedly sank.

Starmer kind of invited that didn’t he?

Ol’ Teddy said walk softly and carry a big stick.

Well, Two-tier Keir has not been walking softly but nonetheless I hope he’s carrying a big stick.

Chest thumping has its consequences.

If Europe wants a war t hey might just get one... would have been better if they had backed Trump.

Here’s my take: the Ukrainian people would be better off under Putin than involved in an endless war. So a loss is not a total disaster for the Ukrainian people. Worse would be decades of an unwinnable war. Of course Europe can step in and give up their blood and treasure - which might be in their best interest. But it’s not in our best interest to keep an unwinnable war going for years. That might work for everyone.

Zelensky’s not a democrat leader - he’s an elite thug. He’s cancelled all elections, doesn’t allow free speech, closed the churches - how is he that much better than Putin?

And how would Ukrainian elites do if Ukraine lost to Russia? They would be much worse off.

European elites would be worse off too...

And the United States? We could concentrate on our hemisphere - where China is moving into South American to take rare earth elements. Plus we would save a bundle NOT protecting the Ukrainian thug. And Europe appears well prepared to give their money to Zelensky for years. So let them. Not our circus - not our monkeys.

EU-WEF socialist Globohomo projects strength, but are in fact very weak.

They can do very little to help save their project in Ukraine.

In fact, Western Europe is heading towards revolution.

Doubt that anyone or any outfit is insuring these shipments.

This seems to be a war run by oligarchs on both sides.

This is what Trump was alluding to when he asked Zelensky if he wanted to start WWIII. This isn't amusing.

I can imagine the future history books (if we survive), addressing the final triggers to WWIII and referencing how a previous actor/comedian who played the piano with his penis went to the White House in slacks and a pullover shirt and publicly argued with the President of the United States who was trying to to end the Ukraine-Russia war before it escalated.

My other thought - MSC is one of the largest global container shipping companies.

Large, private companies avoid war-zones, they do not risk expensive assets, crew unions would refuse to sail on such voyages, and indeed - vessel owners would not be able to get insurance to sail into a port like Odessa.

So clearly, the EU was “back-stopping” such a voyage. For what purpose?

This is starting to make the shooting of an “Arch Duke” look like a reasonable excuse.

On all sides. I don't think the Russian people want to be in an endless stupid war either. The 'elites need to sit down and work this out with Trump or we're outta there.

Trump speaks for the American people. Europe speaks for their elites. And Putin's in between - he speaks for his own power and for his people. But his people won't put up with war forever - too many people dying for nothing..

Think all we could have done for the US with our $186B (not that we would have under The Vegetable/HeelsUp...it’d have likely gone for something even more destructive).

It’s clear one of Putin’s goals is to further drive a wedge between the US and Britain, and the rest of Europe.
