Comedy icons John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd star in the outrageously funny musical comedy The Blues Brothers. After the release of Jake Blues (John Belushi) from prison, he and brother Elwood (Dan Aykroyd) take their blues band back on the road in an attempt to raise money for the orphanage where they were raised. Havoc ensues as the brothers seek redemption on their "mission from God". Directed by John Landis (National Lampoon’s Animal House), the soul-stirring comedy classic features musical performances by blues legends Ray Charles, James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Cab Calloway.

Mrs. Tarantino: “Are you the police?”
Elwood: “No ma’am. We’re musicians.”
The show starts at 1:30:40 into it.
Minnie the Moocher...
Jake and Elwood arrive at 1:35 :20.
We’re on a mission from Gad.
Different era of film-making and we're much poorer for it's passing.
Oh come on! What about Caddyshack or Blazing Saddles? All time greats from that era.
Steve Cropper and Donald “Duck” Dunn, two of my All time musical heroes.
The true golden age of Hollywood: The Blues Brothers, Animal House, Airplane!, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Caddyshack just to name a few.
I liked The Good Ol’ Boys, chasing them around, gonna shoot them with a double barrel shotgun.
Someone did their homework...
We've all been there.
I sure did. Donald “Duck” Dunn had that bass amp cranked up to 11 and was having a wild time, smiling all the way through it.
BB has some funny scenes, and the bits with the music legends are great, but I don’t think it holds up as well as Aurplane! and probably not as well as Caddyshack. All 3 came out in the span of a few weeks in the summer of 1980
About six years ago my 19 year old son was reluctant to watch this because it was an “old movie”. When the Bluesmobile went through the shopping mall wall he just lost it. He showed my VHS tape to a bunch of his friends shortly after and they were rolling all the way through it. A true classic of comedy.
We lived in Chicago when BB was being filmed. There were frequent news stories about it, like when the car drove off the parking garage.
One story I heard was that they contracted to drive through the mall (which was going bankrupt) and then they would restore it. Only they never restored it!
Saw this in a drive-in with Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie as the second movie. An epic double feature! Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie had many memorable quotes as well.
Boom, boom, boom
The band!!
She is bad a$$.
Like me some sugar pie!
“1978 was a VERY long time ago.”
Really? Yesterday was long time ago? :)
(Still not used to my official Geezer status, apparently...)
Totally agree.
I shared this masterpiece with my kids a little earlier, ages 13-14 ish. When the Sister at the Orphanage scene launched naughty words I had not remembered, my teenagers looked over to see at me if I was going to stop the show.
I declared it a classic piece of art and literature so therefore worthy of study. They loved it. It is a treasure.
