When German and Russian defense sensitivities led Russia to mobilize and Germany to respond; and then Poland became a target for division between the two, all of Europe and then the U.S. became participants in a trench war that killed millions of young men.
When the health system of the time was totally unable to cope with the influenza that followed the war, millions more died.
I don't want to see that for my family, my country or my world.
As much as I dislike the Russian history of paranoid aggression, and as much as I admire Ukraine's determined resistance to the Russian military, I do not want to see my admiration turned into a perverse willingness to oppose Russia right down to the last American dollar and the last Ukrainian soldier.
We must stop before our generation crosses the same line that led all Europe and some of America into World War I and its consequences.
My position is: Stop shooting, scare Russia with the right mix of threats and reassurance, make a deal with Ukraine and try to make the next decade better.
Trump may be trying to do that. I hope so.
I think we are headed that way.
What fact would you base your hope that Trump is doing anything other than just encouraging Russia to slaughter the Ukrainian civilian population upon?
Me too. I want to read a really good book about WWI. Any suggestions?
More like the current situation in Korea
There are some who argue that Woodrow Wilson, and our new Central Bank, were preparing and always ready to go in on the side of the British Empire.
That same line of thought says the US has been manipulated into doing the dirty work of the British Empire since then, all the way up to Joe Biden.
The way Trump is now behaving, by rejecting the anti-Russia narrative, dumping Ukraine, and breaking these military and financial bonds with the EU and London - leads one to believe the first two points were true - or Trump certainly believes in the London/EU ability to manipulate and control Americas deep-state.
Sounds like the most pragmatic reality available. With sympathy to the Ukrainian PEOPLE, they will never be able to push Russia out of those lost areas like Crimea and the Donbas. Those areas are lost. Every country on earth has lost land at one time or another, even Russia. Ukraine needs to accept that reality and work towards a deal that allows them to move on and rebuild. The choice is rebuild their future, or greater destruction.
Ya, so many that youre baked. Add some water and turn it back down below 350.
The other reason is that since the US expanded in the Pacific with the acquisition of Hawaii and The Philippines, even long before Pearl Harbor, many felt this would put us on a collision course with the Japanese, and we needed to expand our Pacific fleet.
We relied heavily on The Royal Navy to guard the Atlantic, until we were able to have a true “two-ocean navy”.
The WWI museum in downtown KCMO has a narration of and about the first world war ... the consensus they claimed that caused WWI was, get ready for it, ‘nationalism’! I could not get out of that place fast enough!
Well, he just got body checked by Vance and Trump today. Maybe getting slammed into the boards will knock some sense into Z.
Not a book, but a series on YouTube....The Great War.
The best episodes are the Week-By-Week ones with Indy Neidell.

Guns of August, Barbara Tuckman, is a great book. What’s really interesting about WW I is that it was a family fight between the relatives of the noble families. At the end, only the British royalty survived.
There are many good documentaries on WW I on the streaming services.
Britain and France should have stayed out of it, and let Germany and A-H take out the Russians, would have saved the world a lot of grief. No Bolsheviks, no Hitler, no Holocaust. And Britain still might have their Empire.
My commie BIL says the main problems of civilization are “nationalism, organized religion, and overpopulation”.
Without the egregious racist Wilson it is unlikely that the US would have joined in WW1. We also would not have Colonel House and our involvement in the world banking system. There would have been no Versailles treaty, no Hitler and no Nazis and no WW2. Wilson is the worst POS who ever sat in the WH. LBJ runs a close second
We need to stop funding that destination before it becomes ours.
Perhaps for #3, but definitely not #1 unless you know a way to a different timeline. I'm in.
Tie his shoelaces together and see if he changes his tune.
