This would come one year after the NFL moved touchbacks up from the 25-yard-line to the 30. The league reported a 57 percent increase in returns in 2024; which was the main goal of the drastic change to the kickoff rules last year. Another five yards could incentivize more potential kick returns in 2025, as well.

Wonderful-sarc. That would allow average qb's to complete just 2 passes in the final minute of play to set up a game winning field goal along with the accompanying drum roll.

The NFL want's it's qb's to succeed. Throw in a bad interference call and it's good for business.

We're being played.

Jack Lambert was right, they should make quarterbacks wear dresses.

Why not just put the ball on the 50 yard line and be done with it............

If the goal is to reduce touchbacks, this is the way to do it.

Kicking teams will be more willing to let the opponents return the ball if doing a toucback results in them starting a third of the way down the field.

“We’re being played”

I’m not.....if the team in my town moved tomorrow I’d get drunk for joy......and until then they don’t get one thin dime from me.

I’m jaded because the team I once cared about couldn’t beat a good XFL team. The Browns will be pathetic for the rest of my life, and that’s ok, they deserve it.

Enough of my anti Browns rant, my comment about this is that it seems the NFL is doing all in their power to turn off the long time fans. Maybe this stuff will play well with the young and stupid, I’m not sure.

They could do it like the CFL, and make a touchback worth 1-point.

I can’t wait until the league goes to flag football format and is 100% pay per view....it’s gonna be awesome.

Place the ball at the 20-yard line. Eliminate kickoffs.

Well I’ll tell you this; I’m enough of a sports fan that I suggest I have some rules changes I would like to suggest. I think they are some changes we could make in certain sports that would make them more exciting you know? Like in football, I would let all forty-five guys play at the same time. You know, what’s this s**t standing around watching the game? Get in there, put a helmet on and hurt somebody for Chrissakes, will you? You’re not getting paid to watch and never mind lining up, just grab the ball and run like a m**********r you know? Another thing I would do in football, I would leave the injured on the field. Well they’re always talking about how it’s a big war going on out there. Fine, let the Red Cross come around and pick these a**holes up.

Sure. While they’re at it, why not put the WR on 2nd base if the game goes into overtime....

>the NFL is doing all in their power to turn off the long time fans.<
Baseball wanted more offense so they brought in the DH.

>if the team in my town moved tomorrow I’d get drunk for joy......and until then they don’t get one thin dime from me.<
People love it even when they are being played.

Maybe they should try the incentive on the receiving team. Put the touchback back on the 20, but make the kicker kick from the other 20.

Re flag football. They really did push that this year. I wonder if that’s the goal. And I wonder if they want to make it coed.

I can only imagine that happening by kicking short rather than banging past the end zone.

Touchbacks should be a safety. Make ‘em run it out. If it’s kicked through the end zone and cannot be returned, receiving team gets it on the 10-yard-line. This ain’t ballet. It’s football.
