Judges on the Ballot
February 20, 2025 | Self

Posted on 02/20/2025 3:48:01 PM PST by Fester Chugabrew

It never fails. I go to vote and the question arises: shall we, or shall we not, retain this or that local judge.

How is any citizen to know? What criteria apply? Who has asked this or that judge to articulate and publish that which makes for an informed decision?

My purpose in writing here is to ask what you Freepers believe any judge should state publicly in terms of his/her qualifications.

What would you ask of a judge before you voted that he/she be retained?

For example: Is the Constitution a living, breathing document, or a text demanding adherence? Explain your answer.

Tell me more about your research methods. Have you ever interviewed a local judge to ask them what *you* should ask *them* in terms of their qualifications?

One would hope judges to be above partisan declaration when the law they deal with is not partisan. That concept, I think, is pertinent.

Liberal groups with names like “conservative Christians inc”, run little dirt pieces against all the good judges, knowing that people will then vote to remove the good judges, and retain the corrupt Democrat aligned ones.

The only purpose of a judge is to interpret the law.
As adopted, not make new law.
Legislators and executives make laws.
NOT judges!
Of course we have a system where the laws don’t cover everything, so Judges are given a wide berth,

I have an example. I was stuck behind two cars
not doing anyway near the speed limit on a clear dry day; I passed them at a high speed and then returned to the speed limit.
A cop had “clocked me”.
In Hawaii you cannot exceed posted speed limits for ANY
reason.
I got a speeding ticket.
Judge saw fit to let people impede my travel,
just because they could, from ignorance or,
malevolence.
At least he reduced the fine.
That is why I don’t trust judges.
Unless you are the correct race, sex, or whatever.
They will nail white guys to the wall.
Just so you don’t think I’m racist, I think they nail Black
guys pretty hard because of of the stuff they
got away with before getting caught.

In Oregon the practice is that a judge retires before the next election. The democrat governor then can appoint a replacement, who runs as the incumbent in the next election. Others seldom run against the person, because it they lose, they have to face the person in their court.

That is going to be different for people. There is not one fits all.

Criminals will want a different judge than what a law-abiding citizen would want, theoretically.

What you personally need to look for is what you think a judge should believe in, and find the judge running who closely matches your ideal.

Freedom, law & order, and the law being applied equally, and that they want the best for whatever entity the judge is in to adjudicate fair & responsible justice., might be a good start. However, do not tip them off as to what you are looking for, because then they will say what you are for.

Most lawyers have the same problem. Internet and newspaper database searches into the judges' background provide useful clues.

As a rule, for judges I prefer prosecutors to defense attorneys, and solo or small firm practitioners to large firm lawyers. I do not like judges who are married to lawyers.

In addition, run the judge's names through the federal, state, and local contribution databases. Contributions to democrats are a mark against them.

Also look at the judges' campaign contributions. Contributions from criminal defense lawyers and democrats are a negative, as are endorsements from them.

I do the same thing. I vote NO on all judges. The stooge that screwed me over during my divorce from my first marriage really screwed me up. I was screw by a judge and her kiss ass court. I never forget. I’ve hated judges, lawyers and their courts since then. I have more respect for street gangs than those corrupt bass turds running our courts.

Perspicacity needs to apply in forming questions toward local judges. No bias. No leading.

Anyway, I aim to pin down one or two of my locals and hear them out on this.

1.) The public is going to vote on your retention. Tell me what should inform their vote.

We are subject to people with fields of jargon that have so little bearing on reality, yet with no recourse to challenge.

How does the common man have a say in who his judges are? The judges have judges, but the judged have no way to determine whether the judges are either qualified or faithful.

I have to laugh. The legals protect themselves at all cost. When was the last time you read of a lawyer suing another lawyer?

Your screen name fairly well defines the business. Further scrutiny is on the way.

Although many states have elected judges, most of those judges “retire” so the Governor can appoint their replacement.

If the Governor is a liberal, definitely vote no on retention or against if elected.

Trial courts in Texas are hopelessly corrupt; especially in Houston where the Houston Deep State democrats almost always get Democrat judges elected no matter how corrupt they are

That's exactly what you want. That's why I said, do not let him know your wants even after he answers. Smile thank him, write down his answer and move on to the next question. (You already said you wouldn't vote for a woman)

He more likely to give you his honest answer. It helps if you can get as much knowledge before hand, as it might paint a picture of him, to know if he sounds like he is honest, or telling you what he thinks you want to hear.

Perspicacity needs to apply in forming questions toward local judges. No bias. No leading.

Well, if you have the power & knowledge, that will test you. No one can instill that ability in you. That is where research comes in handy. Because that gives you insight from those reporting on his activities on the bench.

That's a very good question.

Another question may be, I know very little about you because I try to be a law abiding citizen to avoid seeing you in action. What is it you want to tell me about yourself to convince me to vote for you?

Anyway, best of luck & I admire your wanting to research the candidates. Too often voters don't wither want to to or don't have time, or sadly don't care.

It was much simpler back when because more people knew these people they were voting for at the local level.

Good luck. 🙂👍

I’ve got to say that this is a glaring area where we need informed. Considering that the judiciary holds so much power it would be great to know what values these people hold.

As a member of the NRA I get voter guides before every election. I would think they would want their members to know they should support in the judiciary.

What I’ve done lately is search each judge’s name and look through articles, who is supporting them and what their bio’s say about them and that gives me about as much as I can get.

Very good questions. Last time, I decided that since we had a demoncrap governor, that she would probably select the replacements, so I voted to keep guys that are there.

That is a good way to put the question. Now mandate an answer while retaining decorum.
