U.S. President Donald Trump revealed on Wednesday that he’s considering sending 20% of the money saved by the Department of Government Efficiency advisory group to Americans.

“There’s even under consideration a new concept where we give 20% of the DOGE savings to American citizens and 20% goes to paying down debt,” Trump said during his remarks at the FII Priority Summit in Miami Beach, Fla.

His remarks came after Elon Musk said in a post on X Tuesday that he “Will check

Considering that some households have paid far more federal income tax than others, this is effectively wealth redistribution.

The difference in tax paid between one family just starting out with low wage jobs and two professionals about to retire is probably several orders of magnitude.

Why should they get the same amount?

And how do you like the idea of more inflation? Throwing a bunch of money at everyone will get you just that.

It’s disappointing to see so many hoorahs for this kind of socialist crap on FR.

The only sensible thing to do is put it on the debt. Call bonds totaling the same amount as recovered and make sure the budget is trimmed accordingly.

No! Use it to pay down the deficit. Investigate and prosecute those who committed the fraud and confiscate their wealth and use that to pay down the deficit even more. And make sure they spend the rest of their lives in prison.

We’re running a massive deficit on a yearly basis. Paying down the debt isn’t on the horizon.

Much better than just giving money back. Kill the deficit first.

Part of me thinks no. But the other part of me wants revenge for the money spent to promote atheism in Tibet, mansions for Ukrainian nazis, 8% of the budget for the BBC, BLM and Antifa, etc.

Then I want a cut or the loot just because it will piss off the right people.

How about 5% and apply the balance towards the debt. Not that it will help much if at all.

I like what Art Laffer said today on Martha MacCallum's show today.

Don't give every taxpayer family a one-time check, lower their taxes and let them keep the $5,000 in the first place.

That's a payment that will recur every year, and it keeps the money out of the politicians' hands. The money will be spent locally (or saved), and will reap more benefits at home than in DC.

I don’t like it but I understand it. He’s buying off the 50% of the public that is too stupid to understand anything but free stuff.

“And how do you like the idea of more inflation?”

Don’t think this will create inflation, it’ll actually be the opposite of inflation. During Covid, they printed money out of nowhere. For this they’ll take it from the ruling class parasites and give a little of it to someone that’ll might produce something.

Also, the retiring professional were probably voting for the ruling class all their lives, so hell yes they should get less.

I’d be grateful if every last one of the bastards was put in prison for life.

Yeah. Somehow, people who haven’t owed any taxes would somehow end up with “free” money. I guess it would make up for the ridiculous inflation we had under Biden, partly due to wasted money in government, paying for illegals, shoveling money into the Ukraine money-laundering operation, etc.

It didn’t help him win reelection

“The only sensible thing to do is put it on the debt.”

I think it would be but that amount is just a small down payment on the cost. Rather than waste the stamps, put it back into the system by awarding it in tax cuts not for a group, but for each person. If they send it back, and the taxpayers gets it, the way the system is running now the governmenet would just get part of it back. So don’t send it to me to send it back. I was running without it already so just keep it and call it part of my taxes to not pay. I now have a smaller bill.

Spoken like a true republican. That should start a lively discussion next time at the 19th hole at the country club.

And those two professionals about to retire. They defense contractors? NGOs? In the Education industry? Lawyers? Healthcare professionals who gorged on covid money? If that professional job had the slightest nexus to government, why should they get more? They already cashed in.

At least make it a refund only to folks who actually paid in. That will really tick off the dems.

There’s an expense with sending everyone a check.

Cheaper to call in bonds equal to the value of what’s recovered.

We should also include punitive damages recovered from any fraudsters. I think that’s times 3 or maybe even times 10 what the stole out of the system.

Good point. I'm for it as long as this is the case.

The ultimate irony - take $$ that would have gone to buy Dem votes and use it to buy Pub votes.
