What’s the smart play when you’ve lost some 20% of your territory and are at great risk of losing the other 80% if hostilities continue?
I’m no war expert by any means but I’m pretty sure the winners advance slowly and then very quickly. I’ve wondered for a long time if we would wake up one day and find out the Ukraine lines have totally collapsed.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that this is happening shortly after USA/Russia
talks - sort of hurts the EUROs and Zelenskyy’s negotiating position
Most Russian operations are small unit tactics, and territorial gains are measured in hundreds of meters not miles. This is not WWII. But, while Ukraine holds on tenaciously at key points, like Chasiv Yar and Pokrovsk, the initiative and momentum remain with Russia.
Now its a Russian Land Grab. The more they take—the bigger “New Russia” gets. The Ukrainians know they have lost and their will to fight is sapped. The Russians will advance until the cease fire starts. Watch, they will go for the big cities now.
Getting as many bargaining chips while they can.

So true. That’s just how World War I ended. In the spring of 1918 the Germans launched a massive offensive to try and knock the Allies out of the war. By June they’d run out of gas and were stalled. Then the Allies began a massive counter offensive that took the Allied armies all the way to the border of Germany. Then came the armistice.
If we elected some weak dingbat like Obama again, and Russia somehow invaded Alaska, and the northeast, or Canada invaded Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, the Dakotas, and Northwest, and were on their way South, what would you do? Surrender?
Mexico managed to take the American southwest back , and were on the verge of. entering Kansas, Arkansas and Louisiana on their way to the East... what would you do? Surrender?
If you were Germany and the Turks invaded in order to kill a large percentage of your population, say, your Jews, your Christians, or your libertarians, or some demographic group they don’t like because they are accused of Islamophobia, and took 20% of your country...would you surrender? Would you trust an agreement you have no hope of enforcing, where they promise only to kill 20% now but would cross their fingers and swear on their mothers’ lives never ever take another chunk and kill more Islamophobics, would you believe them? Only if you are really gullible.
You know your enemy kills all rivals even if they are fellow Russians, so you know they will kill your men and deport your people to Siberian camps because they did it before...
My recollection from 1953 when cease-fire negotiations were ongoing in Korea, the Chinese/NK forces were constantly attacking trying to move the front (38th parallel) south.

I said more than a year ago that Putin would get his trillion dollar land grab and Zelensky would get asylum in Switzerland and keep the billions he stole. But seeing as it may actually be more like 100 billion I am not so sure his is going to be allowed to keep it. He is only alive today because Putin knows he is utterly corrupt and will play ropa-dope until he gets his payday. If he pushes too hard he is going to get a cruise missile up his posterior.
