US Hockey team wants Trump at Canada final after fights

Bill Guerin, general manager of the U.S. men’s national ice hockey team, invited President Trump to Thursday’s 4 Nations Face-Off championship game in Boston following the president’s history-making visit to New Orleans for the Super Bowl.

“We would love it if President Trump was in attendance. We have a room full of proud American players and coaches and staff,” Guerin, who is also general manager of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild, said during a Monday appearance on Fox News’s “America’s Newsroom.”

“And listen, we’re just trying to represent our country the best way we can,” he added.

Thursday’s championship game of the first-ever men’s 4 Nations Face-Off tournament will pair Canada against the U.S. in a battle that may reignite the fighting energy displayed at their group-stage clash over the weekend, which saw three fights in the opening nine seconds. The U.S. won Saturday’s game 3-1.

Guerin, a three-time Olympian for Team USA during his playing career, said he thinks Saturday’s on-ice tension was increased by the current political standoff between the two countries; there were boos from the Montreal crowd during the pregame playing of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

“I think a little bit of everything. Canada-U.S. is a huge rivalry in hockey,” he said earlier in the interview.

President Trump’s recent comments about taking over Canada and even calling the northern country the “51st state” have been repeatedly rejected by Canadians. Outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who attended Saturday’s game in Montreal, has called the annexation threats a “distraction.”

The president also hit Canada with new tariffs earlier this month in an effort to curb the flow of migrants and fentanyl from the northern border. But the tariffs were delayed for at least a month after the two leaders struck a deal.

They are playing in Boston. Granted Massachusetts in not a hot bed for MAGA but I doubt he’d face arrest.

“traditional NHL city where he’d be 100% welcome.”

St Louis would welcome him with open arms

Boston isn’t safe for PDJT, he should never go to MA, it’s a disgusting ground zero of evil state and Boston is filled with violent enemies.

I see talk like this, and I envision a huge letdown on the ice tomorrow night.

Love the idea but… this will be a very tight game. Yes, the USA won this past Saturday but (even though I think and hope we will win) there is no guarantee and it would be a black eye for Trump to go there and then have Canada win. Hockey is inherently a sport of funny bounces and super tiny margins. I say invite Team USA to the White House to celebrate a win.

I know nothing about Hockey, but I will be watching this match. It would be cool to see President Trump in the stands with a USA Jersey over his suit.

USA USA USA!

I’m at a large trade show as an exhibitor this week. A couple Canadian colleagues get in today.

We’ve already planned some 51st state comments.

This is not a good idea. Trump should send a video message to Team USA saying how proud he is. Leave the politics out of the game.

Edmonton, perhaps? Thinking Alberta is pretty pro-Trump.

That would be a hoot. Stick it, Castro, Jr!

Too bad the Golden deals are no longer.

Do you mean the California Golden Seals?

The North Stars also got to absorb the Cleveland Barons. Trump could have also fared well if the Kansas City Scouts were still around.

I like that he goes to these things but I wish it didn’t cost so much. 5 million for the Super Bowl and 10 million for Daytona. This will cost a bit as well. We are trying to cut spending. Maybe he could do a Zoom.
