More than a dozen immigration judges were fired on Friday, coinciding with President Donald Trump's promise to trim the federal workforce.

A union official told the Associated Press that 13 judges who were set to be sworn in, and five assistant chief immigration judges, were fired on Friday without warning.

The move comes after two other judges were dismissed this week, the AP reported. No replacements have been announced.

Fox News Digital previously reported the U.S. immigration court backlog surpassed three million pending cases.

Immigration judges currently average 4,500 pending cases each, according to Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse.

Did Biden appoint them?

That would explain much.

Hopefully he has replacements ready to appoint so they can expedite processing of the case backlog.

No “immigrants”, no immigrant judges needed.

Immigration judges currently average 4,500 pending cases each, according to Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse.

That count will go down as those pending cases self deport and don't show up for their appointments therefore - fewer judges needed.

If they’re going to spend a week on each migrant, perhaps it’s time to bring in MORE EFFICIENT judges.

“more than a dozen” sounds so much scarier than 13 out of 700

It takes the Supreme Court a year to figure out men and women are different, and centuries to understand the 2nd amendment.

We shouldn’t need any judges. They came here illegally, kick them out.

I have not seen one word in print or broadcast about the percentage of Asylum cases that are being approved.

Before Joe Biden invited the entire world to walk across the USA border and fraudulently claim Asylum, less than 5% of Asylum cases were approved each year.

The Asylum case back log is in the millions!

The only reason I can think of for the total silence on current cases is that a HUGE percentage are being approved - or indefinitely postponed - for a universal Amnesty.

In most cases, the applicant can legally get full welfare benefits until the case is FULLY adjudicated and appealed.

By the way, Asylum judges are NOT nominated by the President.

I believe they are called Administrative Judges.

They are literally hired, or not hired, after applying for the job.

Many have a law degree, but I do not think that is mandatory.

I assume the Department of Homeland Security hires them.

Seems to me that these partisan Democrat judges with so much spare time to throw monkey wrenches into the MAGA agenda can be reassigned to Administrative slots to help clear out the backlog of immigration cases - especially since they value the illegals more than American citizens.

He doesn’t need judges if he just ships the illegals back.

Judges talk about “due process”. Trump has redefined how much process is due.

They are immigration judges. They are not Article III judges, are appointed by the Attorney General, and are part of the Executive Branch.

https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-8/chapter-V/subchapter-A/part-1001

8 C.F.R. § 1001.1

(l) The term immigration judge means an attorney whom the Attorney General appoints as an administrative judge within the Executive Office for Immigration Review, qualified to conduct specified classes of proceedings, including a hearing under section 240 of the Act. An immigration judge shall be subject to such supervision and shall perform such duties as the Attorney General shall prescribe, but shall not be employed by the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
