Good point. I haven’t gotten used to the fact that we have a new sheriff in town.
“An aircraft carrier cannot turn on a dime,”
You have never served on an aircraft carrier.
FFS stop it.

Have you ever transited the ditch? If so, then you know how close everything is and your post makes zero sense. If you haven’t, look at some videos of Port Said and the canal transits and then back to us. Hint: there’s no place to run...
Many... There’s very little room for error.
I’ve seen container ships turn so hard they almost tipped over.
The usual Navy embarrassment...
I understand both ships stopped and the Captains exchanged their insurance information with one another.
In a million years I’d never have expected a merchant ship could get that close to a carrier.Geez.
Neither vessel can stop, start, or turn on a dime. I'd say the harbormaster is at fault.
On 12 January 1977, Roosevelt collided with the Liberian grain freighter Oceanus while transiting the Strait of Messina. Both ships were able to proceed to port under their own power.
I was on the Roosevelt at the time- yes it was night time
yes we had the right of way BUT could not stop...
The freighter Sunk in the port at the dock..?
Captain was relieved immediately
Recall all the articles about the the DC collision and how it was often portrayed as the plane having collided/crashed with/into the Blackhawk when in reality, it was the exact opposite of that.
Who ran into who?
Yes, for ships captian, a career ending event. We steamed mostly with the Nimitz and the Ike. All the others were not built yet.
Did they ever find that GAZA pier that floated away?
This absolutely should not have happened. Aircraft carriers are not suppose to let any other ship get close to them. There is something suspicious about this story. I wonder if we will learn exactly what happened.
