NFL fans are calling for a Super Bowl boycott after it was revealed the 'black national anthem' will be performed ahead of this weekend's big game in New Orleans.
'Lift Every Voice and Sing' is traditionally sung during the pregame festivities at the NFL's end-of-season showpiece, but has sparked huge controversy in recent years.
The league has confirmed that Grammy Award-winning singer Ledisi will perform the song - in front of President Donald Trump - shortly before Jon Batiste's rendition of the national anthem on Sunday, leading to a huge fan backlash online.

I never assumed the anthem was racist. My cynicism concerns the NFL and the general social climate that divisively extols Black traditions & ideologies while condemning the same for Whites.
The sooner we reembrace one national culture & tradition, the better. I don’t otherwise care how various groups celebrate their ancestral cultures & identities providing it’s not illegal nor immoral.
As long as it doesn’t substitute for the national anthem, I see nothing wrong with this song.

It IS substituting our National Anthem, by being perferformed first. Our nation’s song should always be given the honor ahead of everything else.

I refuse to watch if they don’t play the Mexican American anthem...whatever that is. Do Samoan Americans have an anthem as well? Asking for the front line of many teams.

Hopefully Trump says it’s his favorite hymm and that he looks forward to hearing it at a NFL game and that he loves how the NFL has teams of men playing a rough game for men where race matters not.

I always thought “Oh Beautiful” or “God Bless America” were better pre-anthems, but I really don’t care either way now as I retired from watching sportsball when the whole take-a-knee thing poisoned the NFL.

I agree. The song was written by a Republican. We should embrace that as part of our history. Instead, too many here want to let the Democrats take it from us.
I think it's divisive to have 2 or more national anthems. I won't go, but if I did, I'd sit for that song.
