This would be huge. Not even Reagan could get past the educators resistance...

Reagan never had a GOP House of Representative. Nor the leverage to lean on the GOP members in Congress. Trump has both

I wonder if instead of “eliminating” dpt of Ed.. could he just “merge” it into HHS?

An employee at, say, the Department of the Interior would have useful things to do. Hire forest rangers, order supplies for the national parks. Stuff like that.

But I can’t think of a single useful thing an employee at the Department of Education could do. Maybe there are such things. But I can’t think of any.

If there was any reason for an Education Department it should be to set national standards for reading, math, writing, and hard science, and to monitor for failure to meet those standards. That said, that’s not what they do, and we don’t need them. Levels of education in the US have decreased precipitously, despite the Dept. of Education and the money they spend. What’s the point?

Back then there was a huge bank of goodwill for teachers who were seen as benevolent poorly paid, self sacrificing public servants who were preparing our children to live the American Dream

And they were for the most part.

The decline of American education standards has tracked the rise of the Dept of Education and people are sick and tired of the sickos running our education systems

I think the educational establishment siccing the FBI on parents opposed to the woke agenda was a final straw

Correct. If Trump does this, he moves to #3 on my all time great presidents list behind only George Washington and Lincoln, replacing Reagan.

We all thought if Trump undid the 4 years of the Rutabaga administration, it would be fantastic.

He’s going for the whole New Deal.

How much is this going to save ? If Musk is serious about deficit cutting in the realm of 1-2 trillion he needs to be thinking bigger than USAID and DOE. More like 95% of discretionary spending.

Other than National Standards, education is a State and local issue.

I would like for Trump to issue an Executive Order that ends DEI at all public universities.

Finally it is good to see Musk say “Trump will “instead of “I will”.

He would be doing himself a big favor by sticking to this protocol going forward. He needs to self check his own arrogance...

Actually Reagan could not get past Congress. And it remains to be seen if Trump can do it.
