Musk: Trump ‘will succeed’ in dismantling Education Department
The Hill ^ | 02/04/25 9:44 AM ET | by Lexi Lonas Cochran

Elon Musk, the tech billionaire whom President Trump has tapped as the head of his new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), boasted on his social platform X on Monday night that Trump “will succeed” in the GOP goal of dismantling the Department of Education.

“Reagan campaigned on ending the federal Dept of Education, which was created by Carter in 1979, but it was bigger when Reagan left office than when he started!” Musk said in response to a report from The Washington Post that Trump is eyeing an executive order to dismantle the agency.

“Not this time. President @realDonaldTrump will succeed,” he added.

Completely shutting down the Department of Education would require legislative action, but it is likely Trump could take some actions to hamper the agency’s power in the meantime.

You are all correct...

My theory is that Elimination via merging may be a lot easier than killing it off directly.

End result is essentially the same. But optics wise, may be more palatible for many.

Trump doesn’t “kill kids by eliminating education”... he merely reallocates those resources to cut costs and streamline.

If you have ever worked in a corporation trying to cut the budget you would understand a simple rule:

Cut everything you can as quickly as you can.

Nothing is too small.

The key is momentum. Once you get the ball rolling it gathers momentum and picks off bigger targets along the way.

The hardest part of the task has already been started—the ball has started rolling.

The perfect is the biggest enemy of the good.

Musk is the one that sounds ridiculous when he claims the economy can easily make up for a trillion dollar loss and there simply won’t be any inflation. I can’t decide if he is trying to get out a previous commitment or is really that naive to the overall budgetary process.

It could become part of a fiscal bill not subject to a Senate filibuster.

Growth is going to be key to all this. Hence the tariffs, you may have noticed how quickly we are gaining access to foreign markets that will help.

Economist predictions of economic effects are wild shots in the dark.

Neither of us have any clue what the impact of these policies will be on the economy—short term or long term.

Most econometric models are full of ideological assumptions which makes them totally unreliable.

The case for major dismantling of the bureaucratic Leviathan is increasing human liberty in this country.

The bureaucrats have had a boot on our face—and that needs to stop.

Hopefully it will make the economy better—but that would be a second order effect.

Other than National Standards, education is a State and local issue.

Removing the tumor and allowing it to metasticize? You need to know more about the origins of this cancer.

Toss the “food stamp” part of the USDA into that mix just for good measure.

I would like for Trump to issue an Executive Order that ends DEI at all public universities.

Finally it is good to see Musk say “Trump will “instead of “I will”.

He would be doing himself a big favor by sticking to this protocol going forward. He needs to self check his own arrogance...

My hope is Musk will only be there for a few months, then move on. But for now, he’s the “Bull In The China Shop” that we need.

I absolutely agree. He is a useful tool at the moment. But he should not be allowed to think he is President.

And he is getting awful damned close to that right now... And his associations around Trump have me extremely worried. They are sleepers for the goal of total global rule by technology. Folks just have not done their homework about what a nest of Technocrat vipers Trump has put around himself.

Know what else? I could put it all together with all the research and evidence to prove my case and because of ignorant blind trust and hero worship it would no absolutely no good. They are going to have to just get slapped up side the head to realize their Angel Musk is not what he says he is...

“and that is exactly what the media is saying.”

I wouldn’t know. I don’t connect with media except right here...

This is one of my own feelings since he even started to help Trump win the election. Musk is out for Musk period. I knew this before Trump was elected.

I have been researching him for a long time... Many years now. I know who he is and what his goals are. I understand his arrogance and want for power.

Musk wants to rule the world. And if we do not wake up he will. This is all for temporary fame, acceptance, and show. He is chumming the waters towards his end goal.

All of what he does is only to benefit himself later. Watch, you will see...

This would be huge. Not even Reagan could get past the educators resistance...

Actually Reagan could not get past Congress. And it remains to be seen if Trump can do it.
