Local Waste employees narrowly avoided a dangerous situation on Wednesday when an oxygen tank exploded in the back of a sanitation truck as they were dumping garbage into it.
“Super fortunate,” said Ryan Jensen, with Local Waste Services, “a couple inches there would’ve been serious injuries or fatality.”
Whitehall Police said the explosion was so loud that it set off the city’s gunshot notification system.

First thought was Philly plane debris
Located inside Columbus’ version of a beltway.
likely some old coot with COPD who used to have medicare oxygen tanks and threw away the old tank when he got a new medicare oxygen regenerator....

That worker should be hailed as a hero. He did a great job keeping his composure and had clear thinking.
It was reported right after the Philly plane crash that a broken medical oxygen bottle was found a couple miles from the crash site. People were theorizing that the bottle broke causing the crash. There’s been nothing more about that since that initial report.

I’ll give that worker credit. Despite taking it to the face once he recovered from the initial shock he was right on it and never showed fear. That’s a commendable trait, a lot of people would have just run away. He deserves a bunch of attaboys and a steak dinner.
A hero is someone who takes great risks to save others, not merely survive a mishap.
Well, as true as that is, this guy prevented the explosion from becoming a larger problem.
I’m thinking that if someone like this guy was paying attention to crazy embers flying in California, perhaps LA wouldn’t have been so burned down by now.
How? It was over and done with somewhat instantly. It wasn't really an explosion, but a venting of gas.
