NATO fighter planes scrambled after Putin's newest drone attack risks WW3

NATO fighter planes were scrambled today amid a brutal Russian missile and military drone onslaught on civilian, energy and military sites in Ukraine.

Harrowing footage showed residents in Poltava screaming after a strike destroyed ordinary apartment blocks triggering fires amid the debris of smashed buildings. The wave of attacks by Vladimir Putin - which led to power cuts in multiple regions - came soon after Donald Trump announced in the Oval Office that his administration was actively talking to Moscow.

“We are having very serious discussions about that war, trying to get it ended,” said the US president. On whether he had spoken directly to Putin, Trump said: “I don’t want to say that.”

The massive strikes - which killed at least four and led to multiple injuries - may be a sign that Putin has no intention of ending his attempt to crush Ukraine. He used strategic nuclear-capable bomber aircraft including Tu-95s and Tu-22s in the attacks, unleashing Kh-22 missiles among others.

The scale of the blitzkrieg led NATO to scramble Polish and allied warplanes on the alliance’s eastern front. Warsaw’s operation command said: “Attention, due to the attack of the Russian Federation performing strikes on facilities located, among others, in the west of Ukraine, the operation of Polish and allied

Trump has his way of negotiating and Putin has his.

Well put.

Be patient - one of the Poopers will post it soon, or one of their other tired and childish memes.

I would think Russians should just bypass towns.

They could machine excavate five-foot-deep bypass roadways and thrown the dirt into six-foot-tall berms facing the bypassed town.

“He used strategic nuclear-capable bomber aircraft including Tu-95s and Tu-22s in the attacks”

They seem to omit any mention that nuclear capable F16's in Ukraine are within a stones throw of Russia.

“Why do the Brits so often put “risks WW3” on their headlines?”

British newspaper headline, I suppose. However, when the Brits aid the Ukrainians with long range missile strikes into Russia, it is not.

“destroyed ordinary apartment blocks”

The Russian way of destroying a town to “save” it makes even pro-Russian Ukrainians despise Russian offensives.

Really. Ukraine is not in NATO and both Ukraine and Russia have been targeting each other with drone attacks.

I do not believe this.

Fascinating. Poltava -- in the Poltava Oblast -- has an air base just outside the city. And it is to the southeast of Kyiv, so nowhere near the Polish border. ( So does a Google map show. )

This article mentions "WW3" in the title, but nowhere else in the article, which is about a local strike.

This is a war between non-NATO Ukraine and non-NATO Russia. Ukrainians are killing Russians and Russians are killing Ukrainians. And each day, the tabloid UK media stirs the rhetorical pot. World War Three!

Okay, so now what SPECIFICALLY is the UK and its Starmer government going to do next? Sign a hundred-year plan? Already done last week. Send missiles? Already done. So what next for once-Great Britain?

Fire salvos of headlines! Load up the rhetoric cannon, and FIRE! That'll do it!

It doesn't matter what he wants!

Hitler didn't "want" to start WWII. (Though he may have, for tactical reasons, subsequently claimed that he was hungry for war.)

Rather, he would have been perfectly happy to invade and conquer the lands of "inferior peoples" without significance resistance. He didn't "want" a global conflagration that saw most of the nations of the world aligned against him and his paltry "Axis."

But he got something entirely different than what he "wanted."

It is pretty pointless to speculate about what Putin "wants."

An even better strategy would be for Putin to recall his troops / withdraw all of his forces to within the ante bellum boundaries.

The Ukrainians and NATO over the last 10 years or so have built defensive fortifications in a lot of these towns. Besides, they like to hide amongst the population, which is a war crime in itself. Remember, Putin’s prime objective is “demilitarization” of Ukraine.
