Olivia Dunne is worried about gymnastics after troubling sight
The New York Post ^ | Jan. 28, 2025 | Ryan Gaydos

Olivia Dunne sounded the alarm about the lack of viewership in women’s gymnastics and suggested that the judges and the scoring system may be to blame.

Dunne fired off an uncharacteristic critical post on X about the state of the sport.

It came as LSU was upset in an SEC matchup against Arkansas. The Tigers came into the meeting as the No. 2 squad in the country.

“I am sitting here watching NCAA gymnastics and the empty seats are concerning. I care deeply about the growth in women’s sports especially in the NCAA,” she wrote. “If you want fans to enjoy the sport and increase viewership, you have to look at what makes the crowds go crazy! People understand what a perfect 10 is and want people who do things that look great to be rewarded.

“Too many deductions taken at a judge’s discretion feels the same as watching a basketball game that’s constantly interrupted with penalties or a football game with flags on every play.

Livvy (the girlfriend of MLB pitcher Paul Skenes, BTW) raises a real concern, and it's one more reason why women's sports need to be protected.

I just think “professional sports” has become a joke. It doesn’t always have politics embedded in it, but it often does. I watch none of it now. I have no wish to be lulled by their Bread and Circuses.

NIL millions is concerned not enough folks watch gymnastics in person and blames the judges.
Not enough folks watch women’s basketball and it’s the referee’s fault b

I would think LSU would pack fans in both at home and on the road due to just Livvy herself.

Yeah, everyone would watch "rhythmic gymnastics" if only the judges' scoring was better.

Talking NCAA sports in the winter, It could be womens sports tix prices use to be free for NCAA events and near nothing for WMBA now they are 30 bucks for each little munchkins seat for the big program to come to town. The hotdog is no longer $2 from the varsity club. With one or two programs NCAA sports being professionals, it cost alot to open the areana on tuesday night for 350 people max because of the number of doors to monitor and the base amount to clean the restrooms.

Nobody and their Institutions is going to be rewarded for most NCAA sports outside of the top .1% on olympic teams. Hopefully the football and basketball teams can pay for the bus and the arena staff the other 310 nights a year.

Serve alcohol and the crowds will come out for women's sports such as Curling.

The long delays make it unwatchable.

That’s actually the one good thing about soccer, is that at least the action is more or less continuous.

But I suspect now, that will start to change, as I have seen them introduce “Hydration Breaks” during games.

I agree, Rugby seems better too. A pro football lasts what, about 3 hours? There are 11 minutes of actual football during the time and 60 minutes of commercials.

You’ve got to be kidding, I’m not doing that.
