President Trump had a “firm” phone conversation with Denmark’s prime minister last week to convey his serious intentions of acquiring Greenland, according to a report citing officials privy to the talk.
Trump has been aggressive in his desire to make Greenland a US territory to bolster national security in the Arctic region — and has even refused to rule out using “military force” to get it.
The Danish government, which has ownership of the largest island in the world, has said Greenland is not for sale and will not be a part of the US.
Trump’s conversation with Danish PM Mette Fredericksen, in which he stood unwavering behind his intentions, did not go well, European sources familiar with the discussion told the Financial Times.
“It was horrendous,” a source said.
Another source said Trump “was very firm.
“It was a cold shower. Before, it was hard to take it seriously. But I do think it is serious, and potentially, very dangerous,” the person said.
A third source told the outlet, “The intent was very clear.
“[Trump officials] want it. The Danes are now in crisis mode.”
A fourth said, “The Danes are utterly freaked out by this.”
Trump’s team had previously relayed to The Post that the president was “100% serious” in his intentions on Greenland and also retaking the Panama Canal.

“...simply sign a mutual defense treaty...”
They already have. We have things up there already.

We already have bases there, that’s all we need.
They could overwhelm us with rotten herring...
Trigger alert!
Guy asks girl out for a date. She is now in crisis mode. The whole danged government.
A poll of the 55,000 residents, who are mostly tribal entities, found that 30,000 in favor of becoming Americans and 20,000 did not.

Not good enough.
Greenland has natural resources that can be exploited. But this requires investment. It has a very harsh climate, and no infrastructure to speak of, and any investment in these things could lead to catastrophic losses if the geopolitical winds blow in a different direction.
Investment requires faith and confidence in the political and legal (and possibly military) systems to protect the investors’ rights. Even the Danish government may not be willing to spend a lot to exploit these resources out of fear of financial loss that might come through geopolitical forces.
Denmark can profit from Greenland by selling it and letting us exploit its natural resources. We are also the most logical country to control it from a military standpoint to ensure regional stability. It is an American island.
There is a tremendous opportunity cost for continuing with business as usual. Greenland’s natural resources sit idle, robbing the world of wealth creation that will benefit everyone.
There is a strategic military advantage to us owning Greenland, but there is an economic advantage. Who else could, would, or should be the nation to manage this economic advantage? Russia? China? Europe?
President Trump’s pursuit is visionary.
America is the logical choice.
Military age = 18 for voluntary service
Conscription = Yes, for men and women.
Available for military service = 2,605,137, age 18–49 (2023)
Fit for military service = 2,107,794, age 18–49 (2023)
Reaching military age annually = 76,970 (2023)
Active personnel = 21,000 military & 4,638 civilian (2024)
Reserve personnel = 12,000 + 51,000 volunteers in the Home Guard
Deployed personnel = 800 (2024)
the military retains the capability to continually deploy 2,000 soldiers in international service or 5,000 over a short time span.

from Russia or Chicom invasion

Russia might invade, if it had the manpower, which it does not; China will simply buy its way to taking over with its Belt and Road initiative.
The Danes don’t really care about Greenland and would or could do nothing if the Chinese were to establish some kind of foothold there

already have:
Shenghe Resources Holdings from China holds a significant stake in Greenland Minerals, making it a notable foreign investor in Greenland’s mining sector.
Like all other Chinese companies, Shenghe Resources Holdings is owned by the CCP and the PLA.

Be sure to pack a rifle of large handgun for when you meet the island’s resident polar bears.
Awe-inspiring. "Tooth to tail" calculations suggest that only a portion of those dispatched would be combat efficient.
Your other comment that China might try to "belt and road" Greenland is apt. But a notion that Greenland can be defended by Denmark is a bit of good humor for the day.
no infrastructure to speak of

There is 40 miles of paved road! Heh.
If we could acquire BC and the Yukon, we would have Canada surrounded.
I think they'd be better off if we traded Puerto Rico for Greenland. We get the security of having territory in the Arctic, and the Danes get a Caribbean vacation resort island to get away from all the Scandanavian cold winters.
President Trump can even throw in constructing a luxury hotel and world-class golf club to sweeten the deal.
It's a win-win for everybody!

Only 7.8% Danish.
The Danes should have contracted the Americans in the '50s and started to extract natural resources. At the same time, build a naval base there.
But they didn't do that so they don't really own it.
One day, the Chinese or the Russians can just show up to Greenland and they'll take it.
Or illegals from Mexico, Latin America and South America.
You don’t need to own it to acquire mineral rights. But it’s not globalism when Trump does it, I guess.
“But it’s not globalism when Trump does it, I guess.”
I fail to see how acquiring Greenland advances globalism.
