Trump's threat against Moscow on Ukraine seen as an insulting false start by some in Russia

"Disrespectful", "insulting", and "ill-informed." Donald Trump's threats aimed at strong-arming Moscow into ending its war in Ukraine have been badly received by some politicians and nationalists in Russia who say his tactics bode ill for a deal.

-snip-

Influential war bloggers, read by millions of Russians and licenced by the authorities, expressed outrage.

One of them, Voenkor Kotonok, said Trump's statement was "insulting, arrogant and self-satisfied." Another, war correspondent Alexander Kots, speculated that the Middle East ceasefire had given Trump a misplaced sense of omnipotence.

"Russia is not the Gaza Strip. And starting a dialogue with ultimatums is not the most far-sighted move on the part of a leader claiming to be a peacemaker. Moscow will never agree to any deals dictated by blackmail and threats," Kots wrote.

Sergei Markov, a former Kremlin adviser, said Trump's actions so far suggested he would not be able to bring peace to Ukraine, while Vladimir Solovyov, a high-profile state media talk show host, said Trump's threats proved he was an enemy.

"Is that any way to talk to great Russia?," an angry Solovyov told his listeners.

This is how negotiations work. Putin understands that full well.

The Russian “”media” is no different their ours. It is wholly designed to be the opiate of the masses for their political master class.

Russians are some of the most nationalist people on earth. As seen in WW2, they will endure great hardship “for the Motherland”. Russia’s political masters know this and exploit it to keep internal political dissent from forming.

On April 23, 1945, Soviet Foreign Minister Molotov arrived at the White House for a meeting with the new president.

Truman immediately lashed out at Molotov, “in words of one syllable,” as the president later recalled. As Molotov listened incredulously, Truman charged that the Soviets were breaking their agreements and that Stalin needed to keep his word.

At the end of Truman’s tirade, Molotov indignantly declared that he had never been talked to in such a manner. Truman, not to be outdone, replied that if Molotov had kept his promises, he would not need to be talked to like that.

The bulk of the WW2 hardship for the Soviet Union occurred in Ukraine and Belarus, not in “Mother Russia”.

This should have been conveyed in private not a taunt on social media. Trump may have set the peace process back with these threats.

As seen in the ‘90s Russians will not endure and voted with thier feet massively. It’s the fear of returning to that era that motivates them most of all.

Russia’s “political masters” murder and jail to keep internal political dissent from forming. Just as their ally Marxist Democrats do in the US.

“””Russians are some of the most nationalist people on earth. As seen in WW2, they will endure great hardship “for the Motherland”.”””

People keep saying that as though they had a choice under the dictatorship of the bloodiest mass murderer in white history, who was murdering 10s of millions of them before the war and who spent the first years of the war alongside Hitler, and who when they did fight died by the millions and millions under leadership that was indifferent to their deaths.

Gen. Yevgraf Zhivago : [narrating; on World War I] By the second winter, the boots had worn out... but the line still held. Even Comrade Lenin underestimated both the anguish of that 900-mile long front... as well our own cursed capacity for suffering. Half the men went into action without any arms... irregular rations... led by officers they didn’t trust.

Perhaps, or perhaps the message was not just for Putin, but the people of Russia and Ukraine.

“This should have been conveyed in private not a taunt on social media. Trump may have set the peace process back with these threats.” Agreed. This has been his only misstep these past few days, and it’s a doozy. Of course worshipful Freepers will disagree . . .

No, it’s a good public humiliation. Putin knows President Trump is serious now. He also knows Trump has many tools at disposal that Biden never used. Starting with real enforcement of sanctions and bankrupting the Russian economy. Putin would be wise to end his war on Ukraine before Russia returns to the 1990’s.

Russia is broke, and they’ve lost billions in equipment and several hundred thousand troops. They can bluster all tgey want, but Russia is a paper tiger.

President Trump did the same thing with Nork Rocket Man last term. Whining about President Trump’s mean tweets is so passé.
