Strange happenings! Just wondering is it just bad luck, or what? Our rooms at the Embassy, Crystal city, we rented 2 rooms apart from each other different floor, There was No Heat in the rooms! Then our friend Judy traveled Amtrak from New York to Washington D.C. Guess what!? She froze on the train, NO HEAT! She said it was like riding a refrigerated train! When she called to complain, (She paid400 dollars for 2 round trip tickets, AMTRAK told her they would refund her 50 dollars.
As long as they don’t budge, I think COSIllinois and Judy will be surprised at how easy this will be for them.
This week it would be. Much too cold down there right now.
I love Amtrak. I’ve taken the train from LA to Seattle a couple times, staying in a bedroom. In April I’m taking the California Zephyr from San Francisco to Chicago. It takes 52 hours and goes through the Sierras and the Rockies, and should be beautiful. I highly recommend the sleeper trains.
What do you expect? The “help” in D.C. are urban low lifes. And do you know anything about Amtrak? It is run by the US government with the same union urban low lifes.
I hope so!
I hope you got a photo, with time stamp, of the thermostat in the room. C/C company will take that as proof
“No heat in DC, no heat in trains to DC, makes perfect sense.”
And the J6ers had no heat in cells.
Yep. The farther south you go, the less equipped anything is to counter significant cold.
I pretty much knew that I wouldn’t plan on doing much travel any more because it would be outrageously expensive, but never dreamed they couldn’t furnish heat for those prices. If others run into situations like you did (and I suppose they must have) I am surprised the word doesn’t get around more & ruin the travel industry. I don’t remember running into this but once & that was a long, long time ago in a really cheesy little motel.
We had considered taking AmTrak from Colo. to New York once. Now I’m glad we didn’t go. It would have been in late summer, but I suppose if we needed A/C it would have been inop. I should imagine the tickets would also be expensive. Any facility that furnishes a facility no better than this should entitle each & every customer that wanted it with a FULL refund or at least advise them ahead of time about the situation. That is absolutely criminal!
It’s been an unusual cold snap. I’m not surprised heaters are giving out.
With the sleeper, you might be able to stay in bed & keep warm if you had to. I looked up the cost in one of those once & it was outrageous, but I have taken long distance trains & buses back in earlier years & they were OK. This was a long time ago & they should have improved since then, but I guess not.
Only if I get a picture of the chick I'd be sleeping with!
I believe this reminds me of a lesson to be learned if you travel. Pay by credit card where the consumer has some options I believe.
I love staying in Crystal City when I visit DC. I prefer the Hampton Inn. Half the cost and a really decent breakfast included. Also, the underground shops are easily accessible and the Metro is a 5 minute walk. I always use the subway when I’m in town. 23rd Street has amazing restaurants, my favorite being La Bettola Italian. Great location.
Amtrak = make-work program for blacks. We thought about taking a train trip on Amtrak just for fun. Then I read reviews! Bottom line was that white folk should make other arrangements because of the racism of the employees.
Yes, pay by credit card, not a debit card.
Trump single-handedly ended global warming.
The winning continues.
“My wife and I we’re considering the AMTRAC ride from Birmingham to New Orleans, for fun. Bad idea?”
Read mine #36. Also, read reviews.
They might have been full too, but another option is staying at one of hotels near BWI (Baltimore) airport. Most have a free shuttle to the train station. Fare is $8 to Union Station on some trains and if you have a Medicare card it’s $4. Amtrak is like $30.
