Has anyone working at the New York Times ever read the constitution?

The closest thing to a Supreme Court ruling on this subject was United States v. Wong Kim Ark (1898). The Supreme Court gave Wong citizenship even though his parents weren't citizens but were legal residents.

The current in vogue interpretation where kids whose mother illegally entered the country are granted citizenship if they were born here is a misinterpretation of the 14th amendment. Native Americans were not granted citizenship because they were not considered to be under the jurisdiction of the United States at that time. This is the closest parallel to the illegal alien situation.
