Last August, a federal judge ruled that Americans living with HIV who maintain an undetectable viral load can enlist in the U.S. Armed Services, thus striking down a long-running and discriminatory ban. However, as NBC News reports this week, several people with HIV say they’ve been prohibited from enlisting or have faced roadblocks.
What’s more, advocates are concerned that the Biden administration did not move fast enough to ensure the implementation of the judge’s ruling and has likely left the issue in the hands of the incoming Trump team, which has already signaled its hostility to LGBTQ service members.

What in the heck.
No way should HIV positive people be allowed into the military
Why try to join the military when they can be in ads on TV kissing each other?
We don’t need a judge’s permission to execute our defense policies. Foff
Do HIV sufferers need their own combat medics?
If I remember correctly, I had a whole bunch of blood samples taken when I joined the military. And could have been rejected for whatever the results were.
If you have a disease, you shouldn’t be in the military.
YOU’RE NOT PHYSICALLY FIT!!
IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU!! IT’S ABOUT THE COUNTRY.
the president is in charge of the military, that judge can go pound sand
If you have a blood borne disease, you should not be allowed in the military. The military is for highly fit personnel, who may be exposed to enemy fire, and therefore need to be able to provide and receive blood transfusions.
If you have a medical condition and you require maintenance drugs, you should not be in the military. You cannot then be assigned to positions where supplies could be interrupted during war, and you are taking up a position of someone else who does not have these liabilities.
Consider WWII in the Pacific as an example. There were plenty of personnel in the Pacific not in combat. However, every pound of supply needed to be used to support the war effort. Not maintenance drugs for someone rear echelon guy.
With the number of Americans we have without HIV in their blood, why should we risk having people with tainted blood running around the battlefield? What’s next. People with Monkey Pox?
The democrats made the military the job to sign up for if you have medical problems, it is a lifetime gravy train for those who enlist with medical issues.
The Military only has 1 mission.
The Veteran Affairs should take good humane care of the responsibilities to our Veterans (and their dependents) who served America, including all charity cases for anyone who served.
Everyone else, including all other charity cases, must not be distractions to the mission of the military.
Correct. Both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics are ineligible to join for exactly that reason.
One single, lowly district judge made this ruling and the military immediately rolled over for it. Surprisingly, Biden's Justice Department appealed, but it's still in limbo.
Hopefully, Trump will immediately reverse this madness. Sick people do NOT have any business with national defense.
Strap a bomb to them and use them as a WMD.
They want to force the Red Cross to accept their blood donations, too.
There needs to be capital punishment for anyone with HIV who deliberately infects another person without their “informed consent.”
+1
“.. Why try to join the military when they can be in ads on TV kissing each othe….”
FREE medical care, that’s why.
Let's be accurate. No one who has HIV or ever tested positive for HIV is allowed to donate, ever.
But the highest risk group, homosexual men, have just recently gotten the FDA to allow them to donate on strict conditions, conditions applied to everyone. This is just madness.
They are excluded for a very very good reason. Keep them out forever.
They are not looking to serve America. They are looking to be trouble causing know-nothings.
