You Can Get Killer Deals at Advance Auto Parts Stores Now That They’re Closing
The Drive ^ | January 16, 2025 | Ronan Glon

Discounts of 90% and up aren't rare, and some stores are selling brake calipers for less than the price of a Big Mac.

Advance Auto Parts is closing over 700 stores and shuttering its West Coast operations. But rather than ship the remaining inventory to the East Coast, it’s holding what can best be summed up as liquidation sales, and there are some amazing deals to be found if you’re patient.

While the brand’s website doesn’t provide information about the close-out sales, Reddit posts also spotted by The Autopian detail some of the deals that enthusiasts across the nation have scored in the past few weeks. User A-S-ISO_Man purchased $1,488.33 worth of parts for a Ford Expedition and a Mazda CX-9 for $288.38. The haul included CV axles, calipers, brake pads, plus miscellaneous items like air filters.

Another user paid $10.40 for a first-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata starter. That’s like the price of a Big Mac meal.

Moving over to a subreddit dedicated to folks who off-road a Lexus GX, user OK-Application-5778 grabbed a haul of parts that includes a pair of front calipers for $5.50 a piece, a pair of rear calipers priced at $4.60 each, a rack and pinion assembly for $49, and a can of brake cleaner for $2.75. The same user said that even the core charge was waived.

Browsing through Reddit, it sounds like closing Advance Auto Parts stores are offering 90% to 95% discounts. Everyone loves a good deal, and the stores liquidating their inventory have been totally swamped. Some are only letting two customers in at a time, according to The Autopian, so you might have to wait in line to get the parts you need for the winter project you’ve fallen behind on at a fraction of what it normally costs.

If you’ve got time, it’s worth it. Where else can you buy a caliper for less than the cost of a cheeseburger? You’ll pay more even if you get one used.

Tragically, several Reddit users noted that batteries are not on sale, so you’ll have to pay full price for one. And, depending on where you live, it might be too late. One user visited seven stores in Minnesota and said that all of them were “cleaned out.”

Yes parts made in China. This is how China is turning even our used auto fleet into Chinese made cars.

EV’s don’t have near as many parts and the ones they do have are long lasting.

Brakes and tires are about the only things they need on a regular basis..........

Cannot speak for this one, but I’ve been ripped off enough at ‘close-out sales’ and now there are professional outfits that manage the sales to optimum point of extracting as much revenue from customers who think they’re the vultures...but often, or at least in my case, it was still the store that was the vulture.

Not sure but all the tow trucks are busy.

**************** Advance Auto Parts has been around for 93+ years!

Answer
Advance Auto Parts was founded in 1932. Specifically, on April 29, 1932, Arthur Taubman acquired a three-store chain called Advance Stores, which had two stores in Roanoke, Virginia, and one in Lynchburg, Virginia15. Taubman purchased the business from Pep Boys and launched what would eventually become Advance Auto Parts5.

Arthur Taubman, born in 1901 in Astoria, New York, had previous experience in retail and auto parts1. Despite having only a grade school education, he successfully turned around the struggling Advance Stores chain using his practical business knowledge and a four-point philosophy focused on customer value, integrity, quality merchandise, and treating employees like family1.

From these humble beginnings with just three stores, Advance Auto Parts has grown over the past 92 years to become one of the largest automotive aftermarket parts providers in the United States, serving both professional installers and do-it-yourself customers25.

Used to be that the biggest danger at the parts store was being sent home with the wrong part.

Now with everything made in China you typically have to go through three parts to get one that works out of the box, then a couple more to find one that will work longer than a couple of weeks.

FWIW, I’ve had good experiences buying parts at AutoZone.

Advance bought a lot of the parts departments of the Pep Boys stores, Pep Boys keeping the auto repair/tire side. Their prices were worse than Autozone and O’Reilly, plus online places like Rock Auto.

One of the reasons I got out fooling with project vehicles. Plus I am not really up to doing major stuff anymore.

I like working with my hands so I got back to photography, videography and drones.

There is having to make or improvise mounts for cameras or lighting sometimes.

I used to be a somewhat pro independent video and photographer in a past life.

I’m in Huntsville, Alabama. I called the local AAP store for upper and lower control arms for my ‘02 Blazer and the price was still unchanged. I tactfully asked if they were one of the AAP stores closing. His answer was “we’re getting out of California”. I didn’t feel it necessary to ask him why. :)

Went woke is correct. I would be hard-pressed to go into that place if they were giving stuff away for free.

That company needed to go belly up bankrupt.
