Despite Trump’s Attacks, Republicans Made Big Gains in Mail Voting

As Republican voters embraced a practice that Donald J. Trump railed against for years, softening his tone only slightly in 2024, the party eroded a key Democratic advantage across the country.

Republicans made almost universal gains in mail voting during the 2024 election, eroding a key Democratic advantage in nearly every state that tracks party registration, according to a data analysis by The New York Times.

The Republican rise in the use of mail voting was almost always accompanied by a drop in registered Democrats casting a mail ballot, allowing Republicans to make significant inroads in battleground states like Pennsylvania, red states like Florida and blue states like Connecticut.

The turnaround was remarkable given Republicans’ yearslong skepticism toward mail voting, fueled by President-elect Donald J. Trump’s false claims about fraud. The method was once widely embraced by Republicans in Southern and rural states but fell out of favor during and after the 2020 election as Mr. Trump and his allies argued that the only safe way to vote was in person on Election Day.

Making up ground in mail voting was a critical goal for Republicans heading into last year’s election, as G.O.P. strategists worried that the party had created an opening for Democrats. Election experts in both parties have long believed that it is best to bank votes early, shrinking the universe of voters to target on Election Day and limiting the effects of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances on turnout.

Mr. Trump, apparently cognizant of the Republican warnings, softened his stance in the final months of the 2024 election but still declared that he wanted “single-day voting.”

Coupled with a Republican surge in early in-person voting, the G.O.P. improvement in mail voting cut heavily into what had been a major strategic advantage for Democrats. The development is yet...

In summary: Republicans made big gains and this proves Trump was wrong. Or something.

Without Trump the Republican party would be dead on the floor, right where they were before Trump came down the escalator in 2015.

From the NYT, that is an alarm bell calling for truth. “Early voting” had maybe more to do with it in some locations, the rats could never make up the difference as it negated much of the fraudulent mail-in-voting.

Ok, so were słów to catch on. Now that we know what the deal is should we advocate early voting? I’m too concerned about the shenanigans the left can pull on one 24 hour period.-election day but then 2 months to vote is ridiculous. Cut it down to one week. No drop off boxes.

Polling stations. Perhaps 5 hours a day on the Tuesday-Saturday the week prior. 5 hours would give the workers one 20 minute break but no lunch hour. The Sunday and Monday they can count what they have and we can all know who the winner is. That’s something the left has a problem with-tough titty.

There are two kinds of mail voting. But like it is with loud bangy lead dispensers we should not expect journalists or citizens to know the difference.

We need to take advantage while we got them by the short hairs. Better yet grab them by the balls and squeeze hard. We can pick up seats in the mid-terms even though history would suggest otherwise. Bush ‘43 gained seats in ‘02 by going rino with spending. Trump has a better way. We have to trust him.

The problem isn’t that the Republicans can’t use it. It’s that when Democrats use it, they cheat.
