Though already popular, the COVID-19 pandemic skyrocketed the demand for disinfectant wipes. Masking and vaccines were contentious along political fault lines, but the public was united in its embrace of wipes. Americans zealously wiped countertops, door knobs, and even groceries.
While other pandemic precautions waned, the disinfecting frenzy continues. The American Cleaning Institute–the trade group representing disinfectant manufacturers–proudly declared that “Americans are still wild about wipes.” In North America alone, the disinfectant wipes market grew to USD 3.72 billion in 2023 and is expected to reach USD 5.64 billion by 2031.

The COVID panic fueled by misinformation from Fauci and other government officials created an obsession with things like hand sanitizers, disinfectant products and totally worthless panaceas like face masks and plexiglass screens. Just like our mothers taught us when we were kids, wash your hands with soap before meals and after handling dirty stuff is the best advice. However, the COVID cult dies hard and hand sanitizer dispensers still are at the entrance to most public spaces like holy water fonts in Catholic Churches and a few diehards still sport face masks.
We turned the dining table over to the cats years ago. It’s their dining table. Life is much easier cleaning it than bending over to clean floor and I can walk around without falling over them and the bowls. No stepping on a hard kibble, ouch. I call them for “breakfast!” and they sit all pitiful looking like they haven’t eaten in a week until I tell them “come to the table!” and they beat me to it. Their table gets soap and water.
Sorry, it’s the floor for the dogs but thankfully they clean up their area. Doubt the table would be standing after 100 pounders jump up. Humans eat on the couch or their rooms but they don’t clean the crumbs like the dogs do.
I’d shampooed (more bad chemicals and rinsed with vinegar) the carpet the week before this freeze and of course we all know what immediately happened. The hard floors get cleaned with Swiffer and they say that’s bad, too. When I use those up, I’m going back to basic detergent (which is also bad so can’t win) and vinegar. But I’m keeping the hand sanitizer by the front door because sometimes it is just needed pronto.
I recommend a Scat Mat for your kitchen table. Will cure those bad kitties very quickly.
First thing I do when I come home from anywhere is wash my hands. My dear late mother taught me that years ago.
Buy a Scat Mat; it will break the cats’ countertop habit.
I hate to inform you of this, but you’re paranoid!
You might consider tossing some Mg in with the D3 and K2.
Because I clean my phone twice a week and wash my hands when I get home from the grocery store? I don't wipe down the cart handle like I see so many do when they enter the store.
What else am I doing that qualifies as "paranoia"? Taking a daily bath? LOL
I will check that out. Thanks!
“I wipe down my cell phone too. Should I not?”
Up to you, but I have heard wiping down your cell phone with disinfectant wipes can kill the RF radiation cell phone emit that can kill people.
Think I read this in Conspiracy Theory Quarterly magazine

Thanks for the Scat Mat info! We probably won’t get them, as they won’t be with us too much longer, but I can certainly see using them outside around the garden as another application. File away for future reference!
My wife mixes a spray concoction which is mainly vodka with a good scent added. We use it a lot since I recently had an ileostomy which removed my colon. Everything I eat exits my body from a stoma in my stomach. The spray keeps the odor down.
What a good idea -- thanks!
bttt
I also wipe down the steering wheel with hand sanitizer and a handy McDonald's napkin a couple of times a year...
Aww! Fond memories! Mine said, "There's a pound o' dirt in everybody."
Really trying to cut down on the number of cleaning products so I use index for windows, counter tops,etc..I try to n9t use prod7cts that marked as antiviral.
Grandmas KNOW dirt! :)
Looked it up on Amazon. What a great idea, hon! I've been catless for a few years after continuous cat ownership for decades. I used to spray cat repellent on paper towels and lay them on the sofa or safety pin them to the legs of upholstered furniture, but the Scat Mat would lay in place and is less smelly!
As for tabletops and counters, that was always a very loud “NO!! BAD!! clap clap clap” with no exceptions. But our friend above with dogs as well as cats probably finds the separate species' eating areas very useful.
