To honor the memory of the conservative Christian singer, beauty queen, commercial spokeswoman, and culture warrior who recently passed, this video clip shows her in her prime performing a cover of the classic hit song on show biz legend Ed Sullivan's show back in 1964.
Her stance on what we now call LGBTVUWXYZ people cost her deeply.
Clearly the whacko version of our country veered off the rails and brought us what we are dealing with today -- which ain't too good.
I liked the fight in her. As we get older we acknowledge and respect those that fight for their beliefs. She eventually gave it up. Examples:
Jane Fonda-still a whako.
George Wallace admitting he was wrong. Others?
Then there are those who will never admit wrongdoing-Pete Rose, OJ, even Bill Clinton.

Anita Bryant did not deserve the horrible treatment she got for opposing the “gay” revolution! May her Memory be Eternal!
Are we really better off for having “gays”, trans, and non-binaries coming at us from every corner? Are Harvard, MIT, Tufts. Stanford, etc. better off for being centers of “gay rights”? I think not.
I saw that program live as a teen at home.
She was an exceptional woman.I am surprised she never ran for an electoral office.
Beautiful.
A somewhat more modern version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srMkjFwsmeM&ab_channel=MarcoAurelioFevereiro
A stance which a majority of voters agreed with. Funny how Johnny Carson, Carol Burnett or the Golden girls had nothing to say about that.
As a native of Alabama and a Vietnam-era vet, I could not agree more!
For Wallace, it was a remarkable change. Having lived in the era and in the space, his views were like going from hot, scalding water to ice in about fifteen years. That is quite a move considering where the populace of this state was from the time of our founding until the 60s. A huge move.
As for Fonda, the less said about that crazy bitch the better.
Another version by Dianna Krall.

There is another slower version that I can no longer find that was done at the funeral of Neal Armgstrong. I think it is on C-Span but none of my old links work.
A lady of distinction.
A true lady.
Elvis Presley didn’t either. Saw him on TV when he first appeared on Ed Sullivan’s show. Hated him for the mode of “singing” he introduced. Heard him first on the radio in my dorm room, sophmore year at Syracuse U, “Heartbreak Hotel.” Repulsive to me then and still.
I was never a fan of Elvis either. I thought the women who kept fainting and swooning around him were mentally ill.
I was a country music/bluegrass fan.
When he was drafted and served in Germany, then I softened on him a bit, but I never did like his music.
