Thanks, she was also our bookkeeper and business administrator for many years until she retired at age 85 a couple years ago. Chris has taken on those functions now.

Sad news. Amy was a bit of an institution at FR for many years.

In Loving Memory

Of Our Dear Amy.

โ€Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.โ€ (Hosea 6:3 NIV)

Hallelujah and Amen

I know your families were close, and know you miss her input. She was a grand lady and a complete patriot.

As I said on the Memorial Thread, Amy was the first person to welcome me onto FR, many years ago.

It was sad. Took me completely by surprise when I saw Dolly’s post on Facebook. I had a hard time believing it at first, but sadly, it was true. Yes...may she rest in peace.

D-Day โ€“ Normandy
by Michael DiRienzo, Brooklyn, NY,
Battery A

On the morn of June 6th, the year 1944,
Destination Normandy, D-Day of the war.

The waters were still, the clouds were high,
All was quiet, not a bomber in the sky.

We jumped off our LST into waters knee deep,
Worn out and tired, we had no sleep.

Then all of a sudden, before we knew,
All Hell broke loose with the morning dew.

Shells and bombs all around, the enemy fixed and ready,
All over, men moved forward, a little scared, but steady.

The battle was rugged and one bloody mess,
All the heroes that were made, I know you will never guess!

Some of us were lucky, others were not,
But those who have died will never be forgot.

Everything was quiet now and silently we dug in,
Darkness was upon us, another day will soon begin.

Off into sleep, our minds were miles away,
Thinking of home and what people will say.

We have accomplished our mission, although not yet done,
There's still a long way to go before the war is won.

To all back home doing their share,
Keep up the good work for the boys over here.

A job is a job and it has to be done,
We are doing ours, strikers do none!

We don't ask for much from our folks in the USA,
All our hearts desire is one letter a day.....

Written right after the battle

NEVER FORGET!!!

Dear FRiends:

Since JustAmy is no longer with us [May she Rest In Peace], I'm not quite sure what to do here. Do we continue to post? Do we close the doors to her room and say Godspeed? I just think the spirit of her sanctuary is completed with her leaving, and maybe we just remember all the good times we've had. If you have an opinion, I'd like to know.....especially from Jim, who knew Amy better than any other of us here. God bless you all.

Dearest Luvie...I use the same ping list for the Canteen as I do for Amy’s Place. I often post the same meme in each of the two threads. Perhaps we should retire “Amy’s Place” with Honor and keep on socializing on the Canteen and the MAGA Thread. I love them All, but its the same lovely group of people on all three threads.

Just my humble opinion.

PS. Amy was one of the very first people to welcome me to FR back in 2009.

Whatever the decision, I’d just like y’all to know how much I have appreciated this sanctuary.
