'One year ago, we faced tremendous challenges and they made the difficult decision to sell their home in hopes of breathing new life into Sage.
'We all poured our passion into shifting the concept to regenerative agriculture, but despite our efforts, we find ourselves in the same predicament today.
'Sunday, January 5th will be our final day of service. We invite you to visit us during our last week. Please share your favorite memories with us; they mean the world.
'Thank you for 14 incredible years of support. With love from the Sage family, Mollie & Elias, we say goodbye.'
Outraged activists have taken aim at a famed vegan restaurant chain which has announced it will close all locations after adding meat to the menu one year ago.
Sage Regenerative Kitchen & Brewery boasts restaurants across California and was once a leader in the plant-based casual dining experience.
Originally known as Sage Vegan Bistro, chef and owner Mollie Engelhart then rebranded last year whilst outlining a change in operations.
Engelhart renamed the chain and added a range of animal products to the menu.
The decision to do so was widely criticized and met with protests from vegan activists who even formed an angry mob outside one of the restaurants.
An announcement earlier this week that the restaurants are set to close has come much to the delight of former clientele who continued to blast the move.
In a statement to Instagram, the company said: 'As we reflect on the journey that began back in 2011, we remember Mollie and Elias at the farmers market, gathering the freshest farm-to-table produce (long before they were a couple).
'Over the past 14 years, their unwavering commitment to quality food and supporting local farmers has been the heartbeat of our restaurant.

SUMMARY:
This vegan restaurant chain has been in business 14 years. Last year, they become non-Vegan by adding sustainable meats and dairy to the menu.
This week they are closing down all their locations.
Sounds like they ran out of vegans.
LOL!
Just a quick aside, haven’t humans had “regenerative agriculture” for the last 8 or 10 thousand years? I mean, after several millennia, hasn’t agriculture pretty much established that it is “regenerative” and “sustainable” (to use that other annoying term)??
If you meet a conservative, you’ll probably only know he’s conservative from long term observation. There are, obviously, some loud exceptions. But if you meet a vegan, you’ll likely know he’s a vegan with just five minutes exposure. Being vegan is an essential part of their identity. But it’s not an obvious part, like a beard or breasts, so they have to tell you, lest you should “identify” them as just some ordinary person. They’re special and they want you to know about it. Kind of like the early adopters of the electric car. THEY were saving the planet.
Cali new salaries and health ins .
I suspect most places will be closing .
Vote socialism and you get poverty .
Sounds like they abandoned their base. Mrs jimfree and I were very fond of a vegetarian Indian restaurant in the region. The same operators had a SEPARATE non-vegetarian location.
Even vegans are leaving California...or dying off from malnutrition.
Wow. Militant vegans. Beware of flying carrots.
“Outraged activists have taken aim at a famed vegan restaurant chain...”
Good grief....these kinds of people really need to get a life and fill it with something more meaningful than gettin’ their panties in a knot over a restaurant.........SHEESH

Yeah, it’s called farming. 😁
Vegans border on being a religious cult.

Going to graze in greener pastures?
Put ze bugs on ze menu.
I agree.
That vegan crowd is nasty mean. No doubt the restaurant was doing poorly and they shook thinks up to try to save the business by adding meat. In hindsight they probably regret not shutting it down a year ago and saving tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of additional $ losses.
-——regenerative agriculture-——
All agriculture is regenerative if some of the crop is reserved for seed.
Oh, well.
