Brian Tome is the lead pastor of Crossroads Church, a seeker-sensitive, multisite megachurch in Cincinnati, Ohio, that advertises itself as a “place for people who have given up on church but not on God.” They further note that they are an “interdenominational church” and that “Our beliefs are shared by many different Christian denominations, and we welcome everyone. It’s like one big pool party, with Methodists and Catholics and Presbyterians all doing cannonballs together.”
For the introduction of the Sunday morning sermon, Brian Tome reenacts a scene from the movie, climbing through an air duct before emerging on stage, looking beat up and bruised, before lighting up a real cigarette and smoking on stage.

‘ZACTLY! It is an action movie that TAKES PLACE during the Christmas season. That is all it is.
To this end, the church is putting on a Christmas at the Movies for December, where they do sermons based on holiday films, seeking to exegete the bibley-bits from whatever flick they have on the go. Last week was Home Alone, and this week it’s Die Hard, because:
“Before John McClane saved the people in Nakatomi Plaza, Jesus sacrificed himself for us. To live a life of faith, Jesus asks us to follow in His footsteps. Whether it’s walking across glass barefoot or taking out the trash for the tenth time in a row, we become like Jesus when we die to ourselves.”
Post of the thread.
Die Hard is the BEST Christmas movie! Bar none.
Classic click-bait headline. Pathetic.
It means it doesn't matter what you believe, as long as you feel (not think, feel) it has something to do with Jesus.
Bob Dylan said it well:
Truth is an arrow, and the gate is narrow that it passes through.
Jesus is not only the way and the life; He is also the truth. If you want to know the truth, you must know everything you can about Him. That is only found in the written word, meaning the Bible, the living word, which is found through prayer and the Spirit, and in the given word, the presence in the Eucharist.
It is not found in Die Hard. It is only partly found in movies that are Christian analogues, like Ben Hur, Bonhoeffer, and The Magnificent Seven. But you don't worship God by watching a movie. You worship God by singing His Word, hearing His word, praying His Word, and when possible receiving Him materially. Everything else is false religion for a false Christ.
The church I now attend has preaching from the Word every Sunday morning I appreciate it.
The tough issues are brought out in connection with what the Bible says.
I watch videos from another church a little more distant where the lead pastor and I knew each other before he went to seminary.
He will talk about his church welcoming “seekers” he will even mention movies and TV shows but he goes right to the Scripture afterwards.
He reminds folks of the need to follow Jesus. His preaching helped to break me to meaningful repentance in my life.
I think there’s still some hope for our churches in this country.
The language in that movie is on the salty side for a church service.

He had his finger on the trigger in that photo. He could have had an ND! Someone could have been hurt or killed!

My thoughts exactly.
Therefore they’re not a true Christian church.
Exactly.
Did he shout “Yipee Kie Yay M*****-F******!”?

I grew up in the Methodist Church, and left 35 years ago and became Orthodox. I happened to see a video from the meeting of the Illinois Annual Conference and a social worker meeting was exactly what it was, and worse. Really unrecognizable from the church I once knew. I often wonder what some of the old-time Methodist preachers I knew back in the day in southern Illinois would think.
His pulmonologist says he’s doing pretty good. He just has to be on oxygen. He can’t do anything too strenuous. He has a portable oxygen concentrator, so he can pretty much go anywhere he wants.
It means that they still want God in their lives, but they think traditional Christian denominations are effed up, because of man.
Funny, though, because the new non-demoninations are also effed up because of man.
