The Great Christmas H1B War of 2024
Postcards from the Barsoom Substack ^ | December 30, 2024 | John Carter

Posted on 12/30/2024 6:42:14 PM PST by packagingguy

For the last week the only thing anyone on Twitter – and, by extension, the rest of the Internet – has been talking about is the H1B visa.

The fun started when Sriram Krishnan, brought on by the incoming Trump administration as an Artificial Intelligence policy advisor, mused about lifting country caps on the widely reviled H1B visa. This elicited enthusiastic support from a chorus of tech CEOs, who insisted that there is a severe shortage of skilled engineers in the United States and, presumably, the West more generally, which can only be met by poaching the ‘best and brightest’ of the world’s ‘elite human capital’ and importing it by the imperial ton.

Predictably – predictable to anyone who’s been paying attention, which apparently does not include tech CEOs – the tech bros running with this sentiment slammed face-first into a hard granite wall of No!

… It turns out, for example, that despite being capped at around 85,000 per year, the Biden administration was routinely bringing in ten times this number...

Economics and legality are distractions, chaff thrown up by one side or the other to keep attention away from the primal psychological forces that are actually at work:

The territory of one people being given to others.

In particular, the white peoples of the world being displaced and disinherited, as their lands, their institutions, and their infrastructure are taken from them lot by lot and job by job by colonizers from the global south.

That is, in the end, what it comes down to.

You think that housing prices don't go up from illegals?

We have 75 million illegals, and you don't think they are damaging the country? I never knew so many Freepers were pro-illegal.

We could. But right now, it’s a question of priority. The cheap labor people are fine losing H-1Bs so they get to keep their illegals.

Limiting both illegal and legal immigration is Necessary to protect native born Americans. You do know that more than one thing can be done at a time, right? Limiting legal immigration is extremely easy because the immigrants are not in America yet. All you have to do is not let them in.

That being said, go away. You’re a one trick pony that’s too stupid to talk to.

Illegals do NOT work in the professional tech sector.

I wasn't attacking anybody. I was just pointing out there are 1% to 2.5. H-1Bs co And the woke government are shelling out millions for the illegals H-1Bs, compared to illegals.

Why this pro-illegal push now?

You do know that more than one thing can be done at a time, right?

Are you kidding? Republicans can barely do one thing at a time? Do you have any evidence to suggest otherwise? It will take a monumental effort for Republicans to make even a dent in illegal immigration. Do you disagree?

I a not against reforming legal immigration. But I am against the Democrat psyop. And I do care more about the 10 times as many illegals that come into the country. We have more illegals come to the country in a day or a week than H-1Bs come in a year. I am not against one, but why is the gargantuan one not the first priority?

Exactly. You want millions of illegals to come in the country and take jobs that put U.S. workers onto welfare. It’s a double hit

How come you are not against L1 Visas that depress compensation in the tech industry?

I am against all LEGAL immigration at this point. Like in 1924, all immigration needs to be curbed to nil for 50 years.

And you think that’s more important than the illegals? Right now, the number of illegals dwarfs the number of illegals, and how much they costs the U.S. I want to make progress.

They ALL have to go back.

It is only trolls like you who insist that it is only possible to solve one problem at a time, and further, deny the existence of one of the problems.

Show me where I denied the existence of problems I didn't.

In the last 20 year, Republicans have not done one thing to stop illegal immigration. In fact they've made it worse.

What makes you think the Republicans can stop any problem?

I am merely saying, go after the low hanging fruit. If the Republicans can solve illegal immigration, legal immigration will be no problem. But if they lose focus, they won't get anything.

What makes you think they can do everything at once? They can't even have a Republican as House speaker.

Did you see the 2024 election? Tens of millions of people voted for Republicans to end illegal immigration. Many of them voted for Republicans for the first time.

If they see Republicans do nothing about illegal immigration, or fumble the ball, what do you think will happen? They will NEVER vote Republican again.

A county in Texas that is mostly Hispanic and borders Mexico voted overwhelmingly for Trump. The first time for a Republican. If those people see the Republicans do nothing about illegal immigration, they will learn a lesson to never vote for a Republican again.

Republicans have a chance to either look in an electoral change in their favor, or lock in an electoral change in the Democrats favor. The #1 issue is illegal immigration. More important than wokeness, trans, whatever.

Anything that distracts from that is helping Democrats. If the Republicans win on that issue, they will have the opportunity to get a lot more accomplished. If they don't, they may not even be the 2nd party in U.S. politics.

Only trolls try to downplay the importance of illegals for this country.

Illegals aren't replacing college educated STEM workers. That is the biggest threat to me and my colleagues. Both types of immigration are bad at this point.

So, do you think Democrats are going to help you on that issue? You better hope, because if people see Republicans aren’t doing something about illegals, you will have to rely on Democrats.

Gee we can’t get rid of H-1B by EO. Is that going to take 5 minutes?

Are you an engineer? Why don’t you think L1s are a threat to you an your colleagues?

Since you are obviously are neither a STEM worker and most likely not college educated the thrust of the discussion is lost on you.

O-1 is the “Einstein” visa. L-1s are bad too. ALL IMMIGRATION IS BAD AT THIS POINT. ALL OF IT HAS BEEN ABUSED.

I don't know if you can get rid of H-1Bs by EO order.

But you do realize that government by EO is bad. At best, it would mean that the second Trump is out of office, the next president would bring them back, and maybe more. And Congress might bring them back immediately.

Also, can you show evidence that L1s aren't hurting you and your colleagues more? I suspect they are, and the government and media are hiding the info on that. Why do you give a free pass to L1s?
