The country’s prime minister said the incident, the latest in a series of disruptions to undersea infrastructure, underscored the danger of a so-called Russian shadow fleet.
The Finnish police on Thursday boarded an oil tanker that the authorities said they suspected was involved in damaging vital undersea cables. They suggested the tanker was part of a shadow fleet used by Russia to avoid Western sanctions.
The Estlink 2 submarine cable, which carries electricity between Finland and Estonia, was cut on Wednesday, Finland’s police said in a statement, the latest in a slew of disruptions to undersea infrastructure that are being investigated as acts of sabotage. The Finnish authorities said Thursday that four other cables carrying data also had been damaged.
A number of other vital undersea cables have been cut in recent months, raising fears that Russia might be waging a shadow campaign against NATO nations that have supported Ukraine in the face of Moscow’s full-scale invasion.
Last month, two fiber-optic cables were cut in the Baltic Sea in what Germany’s defense minister described as an act of sabotage. One cable connected Finland and Germany; the other ran between Lithuania and Sweden — all members of the NATO alliance.
Russian ships have been reported in the Baltic and North Seas near areas where critical infrastructure lies beneath the waters, and dozens of Russian tankers have begun sailing under different flags to evade sanctions.
The police in Finland called the latest cable cuts “aggravated vandalism.” In a statement on Thursday, the police said authorities had seized the Eagle S tanker, which is registered in the Cook Islands in the South Pacific. The ship was sailing from St. Petersburg, Russia to Port Said,...

The clear and present danger is the IRAN-Russia-North Korea Alliance.
That Alliance represent Ultra Islamism, Neo Sovietism and Communism. What a “wonderful” team... They are tightly working together as a hardcore axis, invading parts of Europe as we speak, and attacking our Israel friends.
THE most dangerous thing that could possibly happen on this planet is if Euro nations veer off into strongly nationalistic directions, NATO and the EU break up, and various sub-alliances form. We’ve seen that playbook before, and this time around even the mid-powers like Poland would be forced to acquire numerous nukes.
YOU may think that’s good, because the initial stages favor the short term Russian playbook. You will regret it. Deeply.

Same reason why the US didnt defend Europe from THEIR tide of illegal alien criminals. In both cases its because the governments involved WANTED this.
But it was a coup, led by US.
Notably, I believe NATO goes much further than simple defense vs. Russia. Yes, that defense was an original objective, but, more deeply, if Russia were to just vanish or turn into Winnie the Pooh, you STILL have the problem that a Europe with pieces corkscrewing off on their own is incredibly dangerous. As I mentioned above, we’ve seen that playbook before, and now you can add nukes.
So... a very “tight” commitment and structure, reflective of a “one for all and all for one” philosophy, is necessary, with a big dog (the USA) as a glue to help hold it all together and knock heads to some degree, if need be. Additionally, few of NATO’s members are “can do it all” militaries, so, they have to lean on each other. It is the only answer...
That said, all the major Euro NATO countries are now up to 2% of GDP defense spending, except Italy*, and NATO outside the US is as a whole up to that 2% figure.
*Maybe Giorgia Meloni is cozying up to Elon for a reason — hahaha.
It’s also none of those gov’t’s business, to get involved in other countries, unless somebody actually REQUESTS assistance.
Well, yeah, Finland had no mutual defense treaties with anyone who could really help them at the time / circumstance. Being in NATO is a FAR different situation: I suggest you ask Trump if he would not come to Finland's aid if Russia invaded Finland, or, for that matter, if he prefers having Finland in NATO or not.
