Troubling new research for Dems finds party’s woes run much deeper than 2024 election disaster

Democrats around the country are still licking their wounds after last month’s stinging election defeat — but the party might be sailing toward an even bigger iceberg.

New research from progressive polling outfit Navigator Research shows the party’s reputation is in tatters even among previous backers, who have come to view the Dems as weak, obsessed with “woke” initiatives such DEI and overly accommodating to the elites at the expense of the middle class.

They’re “not a friend of the working class anymore,” a respondent wrote.

Navigator at one point asked participants to compare the Democratic Party to an animal.

One likened them to an ostrich because “they’ve got their heads in the sand and are absolutely committed to their own ideas, even when they’re failing,” said Politico, which first published details of the research.

Another person answered koalas, owing to the fact that the marsupials are “complacent and lazy about getting policy wins we really need.”

Rachel Russell, Navigator Research’s director of polling and analytics, said the findings represent “a pretty scathing rebuke” of the Democratic Party.

“This weakness they see, [Democrats] not getting things done, not being able to actually fight for people — is something that needs to be figured out,” Russell said.

“It might not be the message, it might be the policy. It might be something a little bit deeper that has to be addressed by the party.”

The research was conducted just after the 2024 election and included three distinct focus groups: young men in battleground states who voted Trump in 2020 but Biden this year; battleground state voters who backed Biden in 2020 but abstained from voting in 2024, and blue-state voters who previously backed Democrats — or third-party candidates — but supported Trump in November 2024.

“The elites that run the Democratic...

Unlike in the Clinton and Obama eras, the Democrats cannot solve their problems this time with clever changes in rhetoric and policy moderation or a racial appeal to minority voters.

Instead, the Democrats will need to do what is difficult to imagine: reject the progressive ideology that currently has hold of their party's grass roots and intellectuals, backed by their big money donors and the power of America's dominant cultural institutions, mass news media, and public sector unions.

No matter how necessary, this turn from progressivism by the Democrats will be a wrenching and difficult undertaking. They will have to suffer a series of painful election defeats before the lesson takes. Only that will discredit progressivism enough to open political space within the Democratic party for the emergence of new political candidates and ideas.

Too many EVIL individuals in the collective. Too many individuals acquiesce to the EVIL individuals.

If the Dems conclude that the trans issue cost them the election (they/them/you), you’re probably right. There were few stories that it was a sleeper issue.

There is a hint that they do

“It might not be the message, it might be the policy.”

But those are lone voices in the wilderness.

2024 election disaster?

Sorry, that is delusional.

Because of RINOs, the House of Representatives and the Senate are evenly split.

And, Kamala - the worst Democrat Nominee in living memory - lost three decisive swing states - WI, MI, PA - by just 230,000 votes.

Finally, Donald Trump is the only Republican who could have won a national election in 2024.

Wake up, Republicans. The war has barely started.

Something that is really hurting the Dems is the widespread distrust of the legacy media.

For decades, the lazy Dems counted on the media to carry their water, but when it became obvious to a large majority of American voters the media was untrustworthy, the Dems sank because they did not know how to swim.

“It might not be the message, it might be the policy.

Its the policy outcomes that are the problem for the left. Every policy they have to address a "problem" has exactly the opposite effect.

The Inflation Reduction Act only increases inflation. Homeless reduction polices only increases homelessness etc.

The list is endless and all encompassing of their agendas. With the MSN unable to filter the news people have started to notice.

...reputation is in tatters even among previous backers, who have come to view the Dems as weak, obsessed with “woke” initiatives such [as] DEI and overly accommodating to the elites at the expense of the middle class.

Well, if the shoe fits...

There's nothing subtle about the disaffection of the working and middle classes when the published policy of the party names them as oppressors and states that others' interests are to be promoted over theirs. The only thing holding up this creaky structure was a near monolithic control of the broadcast media, which has suddenly become noticeably broken given the post election numbers of CNN and MSNBC, to name only two.

What does the party do to address this? It takes time to uproot an entire working ideology and replace it with something more palatable even if it's only new lies for old. Time, money, new faces, and a new message. And new authors, because the radicals currently behind that message cannot and will not change.
