Thirty-eight House Republican lawmakers voted against the President-elect Trump-backed government spending bill that failed to clear the lower chamber with just more than a day before the shutdown.

Good because the bill today spent the exact same amount as the bill from the day before.
Don’t let less pages fool you.
First, both bills spent the exact same amount.
Second, even if they spent less, the deficit will still go up as nothing is balanced yet.
Trump is not God. He is human and will make mistakes.
The defeated bill spent the exact same amount of money as the bill the day before.
The legislative branch has co equal power as the executive branch. It’s just a fact and Trump needs to deal with them as they serve at the pleasure of their constituents and not at the pleasure of Trump.
Trump should learn from Reagan who had a democratic House to deal with throughout his entire 8 year tenure. A small minority is difficult at best to deal with. With Gaetz gone and Stefanik and Walz gone when confirmed, the House will be 217 to 215. The Rs will need to have everyone voting unanimously together. What if someone gets sick or has to go back to their district with a family emergency. Eventually those seats will get filled, but it will take time.
Current anual budget deficit...$1.8 Trillion...current discretionary spending total is $1.7 Trillion (including defense). So even if you cut defense and the other discretionary spending to -zero- you are still $100 Billion short of a balanced budget. That is how bad it has gotten. Even PDJT & "DOGE" can't fix this.
IN 26 months from now, not one of these idiots will have a seat in Congress.Nor should they.
What I want to know is how many of the 38 voted no because it wasn’t conservative enough.
Yes, the 38 repubs
I think a lot wanted less spending.
I don’t have a problem with that, although I would encourage republican unity under Trump:
The only one I know much of anything about is Burchett of Tennessee. He’s no politician. He owned a small business and got shafted by local politicians and he’s still pissed off. We really need some more like him in DC.
“And a debt ceiling extension is **unnecessary** if spending is cut. So why include it?”
It is my understanding and I might be wrong, but reducing spending is not immediate. Trump could cut billions of dollars in spending from the budget and it would take a year or two to take affect and be reflected in congressional budgeting. E.g. If he tells every department in the government to cut their budget by 20% next year and even cut a few departments (just an example). The effects of these reductions/cuts would show in the budget reporting until at least a year later. With budget limits even though he is in the process of cutting billions of dollars he won’t be able to add needed programs or improvements that are needed (even if they are completely offset by a hundred billion dollars).
Tell you what. If my Rep Gosar voted against then there was still something very wrong with it. Someone snuck something in we did not want. He normally backs Trump with everything he does. In fact he was at the podium speaking against the 2020 election and supporting Trump when the shot was fired jan 6th.

This fella gives us a slight idea what it was for the non RINO “nay” votes.
The Dems voted unanimously to shut down the government.
Thank you. I knew there was something wrong with it. I hope they just shut it down and wait. The only time they ever get in a hurry is when they are hiding something we are not going to like.
I wasn’t sure, and I am still not sure, of the reasons why all 38 didn’t vote for it. Some may have other reasons. When all of the 38 aren’t bonifide RINOs, it gets confusing.
We have not seen the bill, and they have not all read the bill.
That is important. Perhaps they need to make a bill to not wait until Christmas break to do these things. They really don’t have to do a whole lot most of the time but posture and jawjabber for the public.
“Do these 38 even matter? Even WITH their votes, it fails, as it would not reach the 2/3 requirement.”

This. These people, many noted fiscal conservatives, were making a statement about government spending too much. We should be happy that they stood up to be noticed.
But no bill passes without some D support, not when you need a 2/3 vote. Not til the new Congress comes in -so it’s going to be a shutdown. Fine with me - let the Dem-controlled Executive Branch designate 1/2 of government functions and personnel as “non-essential” right before Trump comes in.
You do not get to decide how and to what extent people may wish to support President Trump. If you believe government spending is a problem disagreeing with a two year further suspension in the debt limit laws is acceptable, regardless of whether Trump favors it or not.
You can choose to support whatever you wish. It really isnt that hard to disagree.
“Many of these House members are true conservatives. I’m guessing they want even deeper cuts.”
Bingo.
They voted against it because it was a POS too.
