Thirty-eight House Republican lawmakers voted against the President-elect Trump-backed government spending bill that failed to clear the lower chamber with just more than a day before the shutdown.
These GOP representatives voted Thursday against the measure that would have prevented a government shutdown and suspended the debt limit:

The bill, which Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) presented just a few hours before it was voted on, failed with a 174-235-1 vote. It did not reach the two-thirds margin necessary to pass as it was brought under the suspension of the rules.

The debt ceiling needs to be increased as Trump is planning to decrease taxes more than he decreases spending.
That will increase the debt by a lot, but will juice the economy.
Boom! Biden has to sign this. That’s why he’s back in town.
GOP better get this done now or they lose any leverage because shutting the government down at Christmas will put egg on their face.
Get er done now and do the magic under the new congress with a new Prez.
If they voted against it because it provided additional spending increases, then I am happy it was voted down.
Shut down the government. Even this bill had too much pork.
“ Filthy bastards.”

Nasty people actually wanting less spending. Nasty, nasty, nasty!
I kinda like not lifting the debt ceiling for two years. I kinda like not spending like a drunken sailor, which both bills seem to do.
We are going off the fiscal cliff.
Just let all “non-essential” government folks go home, and never let them come back.
“How many said they wanted less spending? How many said they wanted more spending?”
You will never get a straight answer to this question.
The fact is that few in Congress and few on this thread really want to cut the spending.
This is the only viable path to less spending and smaller government.
But when people start to get the picture of what it really means to reduce spending nobody is going to like it.
The two-year debt limit extension is not a serious idea if you want smaller government.
Thankfully, we have at least a few willing to fight against driving this country deeper into debt.
“Filthy bastards”
Lol. You have no idea what actually cutting government means, do you.
You are firmly in the “we must spend more money in order to cut the budget” camp, which is to say you make no sense.
You use big vulgar words. You need your mouth washed out with soap by your mother, but not because you cuss. You need it because you are stupid.
Yes, that’s probably a better way of putting what I’ve posted on other threads. Plus, it’s impossible for Reps. in the disaster areas to vote against the $110 billion in disaster relief that Chip Roy vented about. Those votes alone would have tanked Roy’s approach. Heck, smash up Roy’s district with a hurricane and see if he wants to wait for cuts to free up aid, when the aid is already well behind arriving. If he did, his constituents would probably tar and feather him and drop him in a lake. For Christmas.
Primary every last one of them you are either for us or against us.
What could possibly be bad about shutting down the government?
What is the downside?
Did anyone who voted for it actually sit down and read it before they voted?
This wasn’t the RINOs. This was the fiscal hawks voting “no” for the most part, on the Pubbie side.
I support president Trump. And we don’t control the process yet due to Biden.
Correct. And, Trump doesn’t want to have to burn a bunch of political capital on a debt ceiling fight during his admin.
There’s another worrying factor too. See this excellent discussion between Larry Kudlow and Charles Payne. There is an awfully good chance this economy will head south B4 Trump’s policies can take effect, which will take a while. Likely 2 years or more. Almost hidden in the discussion is the point that this will primarily clobber, essentially, Trump’s base. Trump may HAVE to spend, to hold the House and Senate in 2026.

“Charles Payne calls Fed’s changes in economic projections over 3 months ‘mind-boggling’ “
It wouldn’t have done any good. The CR requires a 2/3drs vote. As it is the Democrats have their noses out of joint in any case because their so called Bipartisan CR had too, too much pork.
Now they have to wait until Jan 3rd for the new Congress to create a sensible CR.
Getting voted out of office.
Try polling how many voters favor a shutdown. Newt got away with it (sort of), but that was a far different situation.
Some of these I know to be good representatives. Find out what their objection is, talk to them and see if we can’t address their concerns. We need to get this down to a RINO hard core so everyone can see who needs to be primaried and removed from office.
