During his monologue on the Tonight Show, Johnny Carson jokes about shortages. "You know what else is disappearing from the supermarket shelves? Toilet paper! Ha, ha, ha! You can laugh now. There is an acute shortage of toilet paper in the good ol' United States." In the days preceding Carson's monologue, Representative Harold Froehlich (R) of Wisconsin predicted a toilet paper shortage due to paper pulp shortages and pulp exports. But he also predicted shortages of all kinds of paper products. Shortages did materialize and shoppers faced empty shelves from coast to coast. Suppliers and purchasing agents were unable to fill orders.
1980
Raging Bull, starring Robert De Niro, Cathy Moriarty, and Joe Pesci, is released nationally in the United States. Directed by Martin Scorsese the film follows the life of professional boxer Jake LaMotta who held the world middleweight boxing title from 1949-1951. Blueberry Oatmeal Muffins / So good, and light. Not too sweet.
Ing 1 1/2 cups quick oats 1 cup milk of choice 1/2 cup brown sugar, unpacked 2 tbl honey, or maple syrup 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce 2 egg whites 1 tbsp coconut or canola oil 1 tsp vanilla 1/2 cup whole wheat flour 1 tsp b/powder 1/2 tsp b/soda 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup fresh blueberries
Steps Line muffin tins and lightly spray liners. Proc/pulse oats a bit. Soak oats/milk 30 min. Wet Ing: combine br/sugar, honey, apple sauce, vanilla, egg whites, oil and mix well. Dry Ing: In third bowl combine whole wheat flour, salt, b/powder, b/soda; whisk/combine. Combine oats and milk with sugar, applesauce mixture; mix well. Slowly add dry ing; mix to incorporate. Fold in flour-dusted blueberries. Spoon into tins; bake 400 deg 22-24 min. Serve warm.
