NEW YORK — President-elect Donald Trump has yet to start his second term, but at a raucous black-tie gala in downtown Manhattan, a former aide floated the idea of a possible — and unconstitutional — third presidential run.
“Are you ready for Trump ’28?” asked Stephen K. Bannon, influential podcast host, Trump’s former chief strategist and the featured speaker at the 112th New York Young Republican Club dinner Sunday evening.
The 1,000-person audience roared in approval.
Bannon then suggested that he had consulted another Trump ally, Mike Davis, who had suggested a loophole in the Constitution would allow Trump to run for a third term.
But did he suggest to Bannon that Trump could run a third time? “Of course not!” Davis later told a reporter. “That’s crazy.”
Why crazy? The 22nd Amendment states that “no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.”
But some on the right have suggested, without any legal basis, that the amendment refers to two consecutive terms, which would allow for Trump to run for a third time at age 82.
Trump didn’t attend the dinner in his hometown, but he didn’t have to. Each speaker extolled him. Guests wore handbags and scarves embroidered with his name. Some women wore Trump hair clips to secure elaborate updos. A few men donned red MAGA hats. He recorded two video addresses that played over huge screens in the room.
British politician and Brexit advocate Nigel Farage greeted Bannon and other Trump aides as Trump’s media allies Jack Posobiec and Alex Bruesewitz circulated in the cavernous...

Speak for yourself!
How about the fact that they screwed him (and us!) out of his second term? As far as I’m concerned he deserves another term to make up for that
“Do they mean the “FDR Amendment”?”
They don’t know what they mean
Their audience doesn’t either. None of them have clue and each thinks the other knows
Tgey don’t know that FDR was in his fourth term when he died. They don’t know it was Congress who imposed a limit on presidential terms
Congress has no term limits. They have no limits on insider trading where they effect the value of companies by their legislation no one has a clue
Do they know that pelosi has been in for 20 terms?
She’s the queen. She gets elected by half the voters in one state but she’s in charge
For life
“She was reelected in 2024 to her 20th term in the House upon the convening of the 119th Congress, which begins on January 3, 2025”
Would require an amendment
I want to see JD as an active MAGA VP!
Then we can get 4 terms never mind 3!
There will be a third Trump term.
Trump’s first and second second term.
Then two terms of JD Vance.
Then two terms of Barron Trump.
So the Trumps actually get four terms, not three.
As long as newspapers dream up stories why can’t we?
That's right, we need to get back to corrupt career lawyers turned government lifer politicians...
We need lawyers, not leaders!
The XXII must be the most poorly drafted amendment in the Constitution .
First of all: There are no Presidential elections in the Constitution. I assume “shall be elected” is meant to inhibit the authority of State Legislatures to appoint and direct Electors, but since that’s a sovereign power of States not sure it can be enforced.
Second: the Amendment does not change the definition of “eligible to the office”. There are several ways to become President other than “being elected”, most notably by succession from the Vice Presidency or other eligible office.
“He was voted into office in 2020”
No, he was not. The only voting in the Constitution takes place in December, is carried out by Electors appointed by State Legislatures, and on 12/14/2020 Biden had 306 votes and Trump 232.
“WaPo urinating in public” isn’t their larger problem. it’s the urinating on themselves every chance they get that makes them and their opinions...er...ah...Questionable.
No. Too old. Republicans will not make the same mistake Dems made. The bench is too deep and young.
As was stated- usurpation.
That’s wrong every time you repeat it.
In all fifty states, the voting that counts is the popular vote that happens in early November. As soon as the results of those state popular votes is known - the rest is ceremonial - the number of Electors in each state is already known - how they will “vote” is known since they are bound by those results.
They can’t decide anything or change anything - to say that ceremony is the only vote that counts is just absurd.
And if a State’s election is corrupted and therefore wrongly certified, then the actual the winner may not be the one who gets sworn in.
That’s exactly what happened in 2020.
