Vladimir Putin humiliated as Russian military 'stranded' in Syria after Assad flees to Moscow

Vladimir Putin has been alerted that Russian military personnel and equipment are now "stranded" in Syria following the dramatic downfall of Bashar al-Assad's regime.

The dictator escaped Damascus over the weekend and was flown to Moscow at Putin's personal request. However, Anastasia Kashevarova, a Russian blogger known for her criticism of her country's military leadership - but not Putin himself - warned the President about the precarious situation left behind.

In a post on Telegram, she detailed: "Bashar al-Assad is in Moscow, and our military is stuck and blocked in Syria, Libya, Africa." She added: "Our bases have been completely blocked, no one is allowed in or out, all transportation routes have been cut off for now."

-snip-

Negotiations are heating up among Russia, Turkey, Iran, and others over the tense situation in Syria, according to Kashevarova. She highlighted the precarious status of Russian military bases there: "The issue of Russia's military bases in Syria is open, if there was already a guarantee, then no one would shell them and our people could move freely."

She continued, discussing the dilemma of extracting Russian forces: "Then our stranded military could fly out of Khmeimim. And now the question of how to get them out of there by sea is being considered."

Kashevarova warned that losing Syria as a strategic point would severely impact Russia's influence in Africa and its position in the global energy market: "By losing Syria, including as a transportation hub, we lose access to Africa. Russia's withdrawal from Syria will give Turkey an opportunity to become a player in the European energy market."

Not much of an army if they won’t try to fight their way out.

I read a couple articles this morning on how Assad's fall is supposedly so terrible for Russia. Both were entirely predicated on the notion that Russia is losing its military bases in Syria, and nothing else. But the chatter this morning elsewhere has been that Russia is likely to come to an agreement with the new government and will retain its bases (just as the US is still in Guantanamo Bay in Cuba).

Given the new government is probably less ideologically opposed to Russia than Cuba was to the US, I expect some combination of carrot and stick on the part of the Russians will lead to them retaining control of their bases. In which case this "stranded in Syria" propaganda is just more nonsense. No more stranded than the US is in Guantanamo Bay.

Assad is under house arrest in Moscow and a bargaining chip in the negotiations between Putin and the muzzie terrorists blocking the Russian bases.

Is their contingent mostly combat soldiers or a heavy mix of REMFs?

I thought you said he died two years ago, was alive but had cancer, died again then got cancer then was deposed? Now he's alive and humilated?

Is this the same reliable source you get all your breaking news from?

More actually, but Israel has destroyed much of it.

The Russian army “stranded” in Syria would kick the entire British army's butt...from the Mediterranean to the Gulf.

Maybe that's why the faggy Brits write this crap.

You’ve been trying to capture the village of Chasiv Yar for almost 3 years. Same for Pokrovsk. Yawn.

The Russian Army can probably take care of itself. Especially after the IAF has destroyed so much of Syrian air and ground power.

The only serious potential adverariesare Israel and Turkey .

Turkey and Russia are actually to a large degree allies.

So now we face a re constituted Islamic Ottoman Empire under the radical leadership Erdogan allied with Russia in the region.

Not sure how this is going to play out.
