UnitedHealthcare Group chief makes bombshell claims about murdered CEO Brian Thompson in leaked video message to staff as he defends insurance industry
Daily Mail UK ^ | December 9, 2024 | Melissa Koenig

The CEO of the parent company that oversees UnitedHealthcare brazenly defended the insurer as a 'critical' part of the healthcare industry amid online support for the gunman who opened fire on the insurance company's CEO.

UnitedHealth Group CEO Andrew Witty addressed staff members in a two-minute forty six-second long video three days after the unidentified killer fatally shot UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, 50, outside of a Manhattan hotel.

In the aftermath of the shooting, many expressed online outrage over the company's history of rejecting necessary treatment - especially under Thompson - as they praised the gunman for his actions.

But Witty touted Thompson as dedicated to the role of the company and shared how proud he was of 'what this company does on behalf of people in need across the country.'

He even claimed few people 'in the history of the US healthcare industry [have] had a biggest effect on American healthcare than Brian.'

Witty reassured staff members in his video, which was leaked to independent journalist Ken Klippenstein, that the insurer would continue to do as it has always done.

He said UnitedHealthcare - the largest health insurance company in the US - would keep putting 'patients, consumers and members' first in the company's 'journey to help everyone who needs it within the health environment.'

Witty argued that the insurance company's 'mission... is truly to make sure that we help the system improve by helping the experiences of individuals get better and better.'

Murder is not the answer and anyone glorifying it is wrong. I do think, for some, that the mistreatment that they have have experienced by insurance companies, especially in their own life or death health situations, is now publicy discussed and shared.

I think it was “’We guard against the pressures that exist for unsafe care or for unnecessary care to be delivered in a way which makes the whole system too complex and ultimately unsustainable,’ Witty argued.”

Emphasis on “unnecessary care”.

“Any details are appreciated.”

I can’t recall exactly where I saw/heard it. My go-tos are Newsmax (Rob Finnerty and Rob Schmitt), Chicks On The Right, Benny Johnson, Free Republic, so probably one of them.

On a cruise now and don’t see much news, so it would’ve been before Friday.

he base problem is that we have near miraculous health care that almost no one can afford, but everyone feels entitled to it.

Unnecessary tests and drugs are not "miraculous".

Promoting toxic diets is not miraculous.

Ignoring simple problems to sell surgeries and lifelong prescriptions is not miraculous.

Censoring doctors based on bad science and the whims of evil bureaucrats is not miraculous.

The technology is great, antibiotics, and the real vaccines are great, but the medical system itself is amazingly corrupt.

Hospital administrators are nothing but standard issue politicians and all the usual cliches apply.

I’m not judging anyone, just asking questions and mentioning biblically you may want to rethink some of what you wrote.

People who accept Jesus as Savior, even in their last moments like their on the cross, may very well be in heaven as Jesus told the thief.

Question: is there anyone on this earth who has not lied, stolen even a pen or something insignificant, done something that caused hurt in some way to another?

Bible says God sees all sin as equal except a few like sin to your own flesh.

Ten Commandments say do not murder.

You are right that we all will stand to be judged by God.

The insurance industry on all levels, from health to house to car should be concerned. My car for example was damaged in a hit & run accident, only had it 4 months, the “certified insurance repair shop” used after market parts etc. significantly diminishing the value and resale value of the new car.

The skyrocketing costs of all insurances across the board in recent years is turning people’s hair gray early. And is some cases the outright dropping of coverage completely or leaving areas of the entire country due to claims. Recently had my roof replaced out of my own pocket too the insurance company 60 days and multiple submissions of paperwork that it was actually done to update the policy. My agent said it would reduce my cost of insurance, instead it actually raised it and they claim I now saved a whopping $50 after the home value was adjusted. Roof is now cover 100%, instead of 30%. What a racket!!

The advent of over regulated healthcare is costing people millions. Insurers treating people like a damaged car is unconscionable. The ACA was supposed to keep people out of medical bankruptcy, instead it has skyrocketed the instances of it happening along with insurance rates.

This leaked phone call is sickening. But, it also tells me staff members are rattled to the core. Think about that employee sitting there staring at a computer screen, reviewing your claim that has been denied several times; cursor blinking at them. Tick this box to approve or that box to deny again. The psychological impact on the employees could destroy UHC if it festers too long.

BUT, the backlash from the public at a system they view that harms them is quite large. And it isn’t just health insurance. It spans all insurances across the industry, right down to that denial from your pet insurance.

You pay for a ‘promise to be made whole,’ from the consumer point of view. For many they pay thousands of dollars per year to only be denied care. When insurance companies act more like death panels ...it is not difficult to understand the backlash.

This person of interest? They will find them. Scary part is they are leaving clues and a trail. A profile. But, this temporary insanity is setting up as serial scene. This is scary, unjustifiable, and wrong. And the authorities have to catch him/her.

Glad you use the term “real vaccines”. I get a flu shot, and the pneumonia shot as needed, but will not put more spike protein in my body.

The problem of miscoding treatment also cannot be ignored.

A lot of rural hospital operate as non-profits.

They are not suppose to make money.

“Medicare Advantage groups are paid by the government $100,000 a year PER SENIOR for medical care.”

How about a source for that claim?

That is something to consider.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I remember reading where this guy testified about insider trading concerning certain members of of Congress; there was some speculation that this was a hit for that reason.

Everything I have seen/read indicates that Medicare “Part C” insurers get about $1,100.-$1,300 per month to cover “Advantage Plan” enrollees. So about $14,000. per year. Not even close to $100K.
