He lied. Plain and simple.
When a person, apparently nobly and potentially self-sacrificingly, promises over a dozen times to refrain from doing an important thing that would otherwise manifest the person’s amoral selfish interest, and does so spread out over several months if not years, that surely shows a repeatedly seared-in, fully-considered intentionality.
Despite the current circumstances not having substantially changed, if one then acts in the complete opposite direction from those confirmed promises, onlookers can only say that the person has clearly and intentionally lied over the previous period of time, likely to have gained some benefit under false pretense from the repeated, lied-about promises while having never intended to carry out the promised restraint!
Proof of the liar label would only be strengthened by the so many other instances in which Zhio has been caught telling lies, say about Beau’s death, college degrees, class rank—and plagiarisms, for starters.
To be fair, it’s quite conceivable that Zhio has long felt pressure from his first wife’s death and the effect it doubtless has had on Beau and Hunter—think drugs—over decades. Maybe Hunter intentionally allowed his laptop hard drive be languish as such a detrimental weapon against Joe, when all other leverage against Joe might fail.
RIP, Nelia Hunter.
Technically, it wasn’t a lie. You cannot predict the future. He broke a promise.
A lie would be “I did not pardon Hunter”.
