Three pints once a month is binging? Until recently I’d do better than that at the Blind Tiger on Bleecker Street once a week. They always had a great and changing selection plus a great and varied clientele and with Kate a great and knowledgeable barmaid. I’d venture that many there would imbibe more than me.

“The world’s worst countries for binge-drinking”

#######################################

Shouldn’t the title be:

“The world’s BEST countries for binge-drinking”

Depends on one’s point of view, I guess.

"Very hard to believe Russia is not on this list."

I'm guessing they differentiated between "binge" drinking and just being drunk all the time.

Bleecker street and MacDougal street-so many fond memories of listening to punk music and drinking PBR, Rolling Rock, or Genesee Cream Ale.

I guess it’s not binging when you are drinking all the time.

“In Alabama if you drink you keep it a secret, otherwise you are ostrasized from polite society.”

Where did you get that strange idea?

I'm surprised Germany's not on the list. During my 4 years there, rarely a day went by that I imbibed two liters of beer a day. A 6 oz glass of Coke usually cost more than the beer.

I'm surprised that Kamala and Hillary didn't push the US onto the list.

Japan is a surprise

The only one of those countries that I have had personal experience with is Japan.

In Japan, you can buy beer and hard liquor from vending machines on the street. They smoke like chimneys and they drink like fish.

I'm surprised Japan isn't higher on the list.

Russia is not mentioned, since they are busy getting rid of the heavy drinkers en mass.

Yes, but the definition of “binge drinking” is: “That term is defined as consuming more than six units or three pints of lager on one occasion over the past 30 days.”

Isn’t a pint a regular sized beer can? So, 3 beers at one event is binge drinking?

This is actually quite misleading.
Lot of the “heavy drinking” countries have low taxes on alcohol, so people from high taxing countries go there and buy alcohol.
Luxemburg and Andorra are big examples - small countries, bordering on high taxing countries. Most of Luxembourg alcohol is “exported”.
There is also drinking culture.
Czechs consume a lot of low alcohol beer, daily, but rarely get drunk.
Neighboring Poles buy lots of Czech hard liquor and get often wasted in binge drinking.
French and Italians consume a lot of low alcohol vine, but also do not get drunk in general.
Japanese streets are full of vomiting drunks every night, but Japanese are having low tolerance for alcohol.
Real expert in Alcohol consumption actually admit, they do not really know.

There is also big culture of moonshine production in many countries. That is all under the table, sometimes totally in dark, and hard to estimate.
