Anyone ever have one of them there mini strokes?
What'd it feel like? What happened?
Were you monitoring your BP/HR/BO at home?
How'd ya end up?
Had: (F) face droop,
(A) no one-sided (A)rm weakness,
(S) Definite (S) speech disruption, shortening, dropping.
(T) Quick (T)time, in UofM ER, amazing how fast they rush
you past the room full of coughing and bored “Emergents”.
After head MRI (neck too), and various xrays, blood flow measurments and endless FAST checks.
No evidence of stroke. They thought for sure. Nor of mini-stroke but could be missed but not likely. went away in 8 hrs after rest, better blood pressure (way up), calm dark room. Had some visual migraine activity - always consider that, they really don’t understand it well.
bottom line - high (very high) sodium and caffeine and middle eastern dining experience for a 90 y/o friend birthday in the couple hours before the issue and sleep deprivation, dehydration pulled all the levers in the wrong ways. No recurrence in three years so far. Lots of ways to have prevented that scare.
I had a stroke (or TIA) in February. I only knew about it because my staff thought I was acting weird. Had trouble walking.
I should have gone to the ER. Instead I waited on my insurance to get an approved appointment - which never came.
My wife took me to a doc-in-the-box, who had a former ER nurse, and she ordered an MRI. Which found bleeding in the brain.
If you even think that you have had a TIA or a stroke, get an MRI. My part (oh, the insurance company is still fighting paying) Was only about $1800 at an imaging center.
Do it.
You might have an ear infection or maybe your sodium level got jacked up to high. My personal limit is around 1200mg a day and it will continue to stack up if you continue eating stuff with sodium. It takes a few days to clear high sodium levels in your system. A little bag of Fritos has around 800mg of sodium. Cottage cheese, tuna, and pretty much anything you eat has sodium in it.

Is that even possible? If true, poor guy had serious liver and probably kidney problems.

I went in for some other problem and the MRI revealed evidence of a past TIA. I have no idea when, where or how it may have occurred. I keep a close eye on my BP and hike a lot with lots of big hill work (60,000 vertical feet so far this year). This last July I had pulmonary embolisms, so am on a blood thinner now. Clots and an unknown origin (or date) TIA...I feel like I’m a bomb ready to go off but with unknown fuse length.
Best of luck to you. You know the drill: eat healthy, watch the weight, get blood work done, exercise and be aware of the FAST signs.
I got tingling in my lips and finger tips. Even a cheek.
Had several little one’s for over two years leading up to a much bigger one.
Tell a doc. Don’t push it.
