Anyone ever have one of them there mini strokes?
What'd it feel like? What happened?
Were you monitoring your BP/HR/BO at home?
How'd ya end up?
Are you doing ok?
I ended up dead. Quite dead.
But I feel much better now.
F is for Face: Smile and see if one side of the face droops. That's a possible sign of muscle weakness or paralysis, which often show up on just one side of the body.
A is for Arms: Raise both arms. Does one arm drop down? That's another sign of one-sided weakness.
S is for Speech: Say a short phrase and check for slurred or strange speech. A stroke can make it hard for you to talk clearly or choose your words.
T is for Time: If the answer to any of these is yes, call 911 right away. Remember to look at the time and write down when you first saw any of these stroke warning signs.
Still here. BP down from two days ago, video triaged with Dr. Was a little shaky on my feet two days ago, dizzy. Steady now. No slurred speech nor numb body parts.
“That’s life, that’s what people say...ridin high in April,...shot down in May”
Thx
I suppose you are asking if anyone here has had a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). People can have those without knowing so. It is usually revealed when a CT or MRI scan is done for similar symptoms or even other reasons such as following a head injury.
Even though called mini-stroke they are nothing to just brush off and be casual about. If you suspect you had one or are experiencing the symptoms (F.A.S.T.) don’t muck about. Those TIAs can lead to a major one.
If you call 911 you will be advised to chew a baby aspirin. If you are already on baby aspirin or other blood thinners they may suggest taking another dose while you wait for the ambulance.
Don’t rely solely on BP readings to decide if you had a mini-stroke. It should be obvious if your BP goes into what is called a hypertensive (BP above 180/120) crisis you REALLY should call 911 and get to the ER.
Sometimes you might not notice you are experiencing the symptoms of stroke but a family member may notice changes to your gait or speech or emotion or mental status and bring it to your attention. If this happens please believe them and get medical attention.
We did not know what was going on with him and he thought he was good.
He was losing logic and ability to react to circumstances such as while driving.
After a year he collapsed several times in his yard before finally going to a hospital and being diagnosed with mini strokes.
Point being that the mini strokes continued until treatment.
Note he was a heavy smoker and drank a case of beer every day.
*He passed 07-13-24 from cancer while I was sitting with him.
TIA’s are a flashing light saying that a full blown stroke is coming. Please get seen and begin treatment.
My FIL had a mini-stoke about 18 years. He was confused and did not know where he was. I remember my SIL calling me at work and telling me. He ended up okay. He is still alive at 92. He had a problem with his aortic valve and had surgery.
🙏
You should be seen in person by your doctor. I don’t know your family history, but if there is a history of strokes you do need to take the symptoms you had seriously. BP fluctuates quite a bit through the day. You should ask your doctor how often and at what times you should take yours to get a decent average. In the meanwhile please remove any tripping hazards in case another dizzy spell catches you unawares.
My mother in law had one at dinner once. She had a mouth full of salad. It was an odd meal time experience.
If you have having them, run don’t walk, to the nearest Emergency room.
In her case it was undiagnosed A-fib. Clots getting thrown anywhere in the body are bad news.
A friend of mine’s father has had 2 TIAs. Lost a little vision in one eye about 7 years ago but doing fine at 89. During that time he has also survived Lymphoma.
Yes, I had one in 2016. It started in my right forearm and was a little numbness. It quickly went to the whole left side of my body. It was just the skin, I could still walk, drive, and etc. It was weird. I ran the tip of my finger down my arm and it was like a second delay. It felt much like a worm or snake underneath my skin tracing the path of my finger. Drove myself to the hospital and was admitted for a week. I did notice my handwriting had changed after that for a couple of years. I still get this Elvis lip sometimes when I drink a few beers, which I don’t mind, lol.
Wow, a week inside?! Did they do a brain scan and all that?
Thx, appreciate it.
Thx and sorry for you losin your buddy.
Thx all
