The death of Leah Seneng, 60, last week was confirmed to be from the horrific disease by Fresno County health officials, according to the report.

Seneng had tried to save a bat she found lying in her classroom at Bryant Middle School in Dos Palos in mid-October, her dear friend Laura Splotch told the TV news outlet.

“I don’t know if she thought it was dead or what cause it was laying around her classroom and she was trying to scoop it up and take it outside,” Splotch told ABC30.

I took my dog to get vaccinated a couple weeks ago and got to talking about another recent rabies death with the vet. Vet said the problem with bats is that their teeth are so small and sharp, you may not know that you were bit.

Two Septembers ago at work, I happened to see this adorable little guy:

Never seen one this close.
Said hi to it, didn't touch it, took that picture...
And promptly warned the other guys about its location and the danger of messing with them.
Anyone ever see the old movie, "Nightwing?"

(After looking it up, it was a Little Brown Bat. About the size of an adult male thumb.)

The next time something like that happens Leah, call Orkin Pest Control. I’m not being compensated monetarily by Orkin for this advertisement, but I don’t have any bats either.

There is one person in recorded history that survived rabies after exhibiting symptoms. Part of the treatment involved putting her into a medically-induced coma.

She was hoping to turn into Batwoman, but the bat wasn’t even radioactive from anything I read. 🤣

This is general information and NOT medical advice. I sent it to the commenters I can see. Several comments were on target for sure! (One wore a derby hat and was a legend of the west.)

FYI, this should be a Workers Compensation situation so the ubiquitous GoFundMe thing by “Splotch,” while nice and advertised in the NY Post should only be a family supplement, not needed for medical expenses, funeral, etc. There probably is even money to the family from a settlement. But every so nice California will probably claim she did not report it so zilch for the teacher. Ca is not so nice to many of its own.

TRIGGER WARNING: This about two types of immunizations, gosh maybe an example that all immunizations are not terrible just because some are. They have saved countless lives and changed the world. Now part of the damage done by Fauci et al is a general undeserved fear of ALL immunizations. Rabies is NOT one to skip if you need it!

She might have died from a COVID related issue: fear of immunizations. The reporting was really bad, they do not even describe where the bite was unless I missed it. Probably neck or high on an arm with symptoms in a month.

Better off to call animal control on the bat because it needs given to the health dept for TESTING in case there is a more generalized outbreak.

Catching it is OK if it can be done safely (person very covered up!) so it does not escape or fly and hurt someone. The net would have to be a tiny mesh. Net would need thrown out, and device like a shovel would need safely cleaned both even without results.

The same thing that happened to her could happen to anyone not protected well if they tried to catch it although most people would not be dumb enough to not get treatment.

I agree with others that a bat like that is RABID, and I would take treatment even if it was later tested NEG, especially if the bite was head or neck.

The closer to the brain the bite is, the faster you will get sick. Once sick, you are going to die. Only very few people have ever survived untreated Rabies.

Bat bites can be SMALL and hard to see, especially if in hair or beard. Clean first, gloves, no dripping into eyes, other wounds or sores, etc. TRIM the hair in the area if needed to see, do not cut yourself. Just a little scratch can transmit rabies.

Bat contact at all in such a situation in areas like mainland US is considered a bite.

Hawaii considers itself to be rabies free and they are cocky about it. If you really want the full treatment you would have to fly to the mainland and even there they might try to talk you out of it. Same thing in Japan, Guam, and a number of other places (Islands) with very strict import controls and a long history of no rabies.

A bite on the foot can take 6 months to kill. Easy to forget about if you do not get treatment. Once sick, it is over, dear Old Yeller.

On the shots, there are two types. One is made of Rabies antibodies, so gives some instant immunity. On that one you are supposed to get the shots right in and around the area of the bite, especially if on the head, scalp, neck. The doc would probably numb a really sensitive area lightly first. If it all cannot be gotten into that area, the rest can be injected just into a normal injection site like the deltoid muscle of the arm where flu shots go.

The second type of shot makes you develop your own immunity. People get five of those, so one complex human rabies immune globulin shot, and 5 human rabies vaccines. The five are normal shots. You get the first one right away, then there is a schedule for the rest.

This story is just flabbergasting!

So I’ve read. Once symptoms occur not much can be done to either stop the progression or to save the victim.

I think a lot of people still think it’s the old giant needle to the abdomen.

Searchable by leftists beholden to social media and their beloved AI:

Yes, rabies shots include a painful GIANT needle to the abdomen. ... ;-)

Apparently the fool also didn't want to get treatment either.

She was an NEA art teacher, probably not nearly as bright as your average bear.

Yes, you are so right!
I personally am not taking any more COVID or RNA vaccines, and none that I do not really need either, but I am not afraid of the good established ones (for adults) that I actually am at risk for.

They’re potentially very dangerous, but they’re also downright cute. Everyone I knew who worked with them enjoyed it:

I had a 1976 El Camino. A bat lived in the cab with me. At night I left the window down and it would fly out and return. After about a month it never returned. It just hung upside down behind the bench seat, just under the rear window. I was in the lawn cutting business, so he got around.

My aunt’s neighbor’s daughter was doing missionary work in India and got bitten by a dog that was running around biting people. She didn’t get rabies treatment because she was going to Australia and wanted to get treated there. Australia didn’t have the rabies vaccine as rabies isn’t something that happens there. She came home to die as she passed the timeframe to get the vaccine.

Take no chances with it.
