Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus appeared to blame quarterback Caleb Williams for how the dying moments of the team's loss to Detroit Lions unfolded, despite refusing to call a timeout that could have saved the game.
The Bears had the ball in Lions territory late in the game with a chance to drive for a game-tying field goal or go-ahead touchdown, but they blew the opportunity before losing 23-20 - their sixth straight loss.

Not too smart on his part and maybe he isn’t.
Sometimes it’s best just to admit you Effed up and move on.......all this does is give the nfl pundits fuel to keep it going for at least another week.
Times outs are the coaching staff responsibility. High IQ rarely cracks the top ten attributes of anyone playing professional football.
But even with that fiasco there were still 30 seconds on the clock at the end of the play … which should have more than enough time to run one more play anywhere on the field and still have time left for a timeout and a FG attempt.
The coach needs to save the timeout for the FG attempt.
“Time outs are the coaching staff responsibility...”
Exactly, which is why he shoulda just fell on his sword.....even if it WAS the QBs fault he should have protected him from criticism.
The buck stops at the head coach
Or highschool ball, or college ball....
Most people at the top of a sport have devoted all their effort to that sport, and rarely to “intelligent” pursuits. There are a few exceptions, of course.
Many cops are highschool jocks too stupid for college scholarships and not talented enough to get a scholarship or position in pro sports.
I guess this is better than discussing how Detroit just dominated the first half... and then phoned it in for the second.
WOW is that WRONG.
They have on average higher grades and better major choices towards actually valuable degrees than their peers.
A number of them are brilliant and many have gone on to pursue the career they wanted in college.
Maybe you don’t watch that much or listen that much to NFL stuff.
From the sack to when the QB snapped the ball,24 seconds elapsed. Took way to much time to snap the ball
LoL. They had this game on at the Thanksgiving gathering I was at yesterday. I discovered the bears have a player with the last name, Kmet. His number should be 94.7, tweedle-dee.
Cowardly and incompetent Eberflus should be fired just for blaming his poor rookie quarterback for his own total incompetence ... it’s the head coach’s job to manage the clock ... period ... we were pulling for the lions, but screaming at the TV for chicago to call their remaining timeout as soon as williams was sacked ... it always make you wonder if the game was fixed for the lions from the start and chicago came too close for comfort to winning ...
“The coach needs to save the timeout for the FG attempt.”
call the timeout as soon as the sack occurs ... throw a sideline pass to get closer for the field goal ... missed pass stops the clock ... completed sideline pass stops the clock when the receiver steps out of bound ... football clock management 101 ...
That kicker wasn’t going to make a 58 yard FG.
I wouldn’t say it caused them to lose, they were outside of field goal range, things were slim. But, holy crap did they screw the pooch.
Yeah, I didn’t see it, but even from the article’s description, which you confirm, it sounds like it was quite reasonable to try for one more play before taking the time out.
Watching the game yesterday, it occurred to me that Caleb Williams is not smart enough to be an NFL quarterback. Not IQ smart, not street smart, but football smart.
The Lions are definitely in Twilight Zone territory...winning games the way they lost them for 60+ years.
Just waiting for the clock to strike midnight and they turn into a pumpkin again...with injuries piling up, that may just do it.
That second half pissed me off. You won’t beat the Eagles playing like that.
Truth! Coaching malpractice!!!
