Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Good morning. Happy Monday!

We had 45 fs when walking The Princess this morning. It seems early.

We managed to get (almost) everything out of the Estate house that we’re not leaving on Saturday. When S-I-L and her husband were there so S-I-L could pack some china, her husband went snooping. Why would a Heart Surgeon be looking for trinkets to take that weren’t already spoken for??? Anyway, he poked is nose into a crawl space under part of the house that Mrs. ArGee and I hadn’t checked. Yep! More junk. Why would someone keep a box for a hose reel that had been mounted on the side of the house???

So we got the junk up to the garage on Sunday which will need to be removed this week. Then we’ll get the 2 pieces of furniture B-I-L was still using after he leaves tomorrow.

Will it be smooth sailing until closing after that? We, wonders, Precious.

Not to bad on the Wordle front today.

Making an animatronic “monster in a box” for a Halloween deocration. Nailing the box part together with my pneumatic 18ga wire nailer and had a wire come out the side of the wood instead... 3/4” into the end of my thumb...

The blood drops on the wood should add to the realism... I guess.

Happy Monday ya’all...

Ya, sometimes those nails are determined to not go straight in as directed! I agree, the blood on the box will make it realistic...

Making the box out of mostly scrap wood. 1x2 furring strips, pallet wood, and some old 3/4”x10” shelving I’ve had for a decade. Going to be about the size of a small-medium footlocker.

I think I posted this before... Not sure I’m going to do the smoke on the inside and I’ll have more lights to go with it...

Yeah, using that older, scrappy wood will give it a more realistic feel…. Fun project!

My own experience with projects is that they require extra protein ... from me.

If you train them properly they are much less inclined to try to take over openly but they will always still try.

Because, Cat.

Good Morning!

We had our chilliest overnight since last Spring... 59° F when I first looked... one more similar then back to more normal... good thing that I covered the pool last evening!

They wanted me to have this one today...

Good morning. Happy Twosday.

It was chilly here this morning again. Mid 40s. Mrs. ArGee turned on the heater in the apartment because the indoor temperature had dropped to 70. We aim for 72.

We had similar experiences Wordling, albeit with different words to get us there.

Grey and icky. Family troubles, my kids, so I didn’t sleep very well. Family infighting sucks. Especially when I’m caught in the middle.

I hear ya! Mrs. ArGee would say something to the kids and then, if I disagreed, pull me aside and tell me I need to back her up in front of the kids so they don't play us against each other. "Well, then tell me in advance when you're going to say something new!" Often stuck in the middle.

Still not sure how I managed that.

Apparently. While I have my libertarian sensibilities, my parents are staunch religious conservatives. My kids.. being products of the last 20 years, and despite my best efforts, are relatively liberal.

My Youngest, it turns out, is on the autism spectrum. At the point that they used to diagnose as Aspergers. She’s also gender dysphoric. Which is a transient disorder that left alone most people grow out of unless someone is enabling them.

Guess where this is going... Love my kids, but there is some sh*t I will not put up with.

Afternoon. We were camping for a couple of days. It was very nice. Now we’re back to our construction site.

The new gutters were supposed to be installed today, but here it is nearly 4:00 p.m., and no action. And Vlad forgot to put the trash out.
