Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

I did manage to get some weeding done

Does seem pulling one *weed* creates growth of two to three new *weeds*.
God’s speed, I pray for You, FRriend.

Good morning. Happy Twosday!

I made it back with no fuss. Of curse, when I got back there was a long list of stuff in the estate home that needed addressing. B-I-L is coming in tonight and he’s going to let us use the movers he’s hired to move his stuff into storage to move our stuff into storage too. So we’re wrapping stuff for the movers.

When we don’t even need furniture somehow we’re taking 3 dressers with mirrors. Mirrors are fun to pack. I’ll be doing more of that tonight.

I’m already tired and it’s only 7:50 in the morning. I guess this was a real labor day weekend.

Wordle was good this morning.

That’s a good Wordle weekend. I think I got a 4, a 3, and a 2. But I can’t remember that far back.

I keep telling myself that I need to announce to the universe that I don’t want any grass, I just want crabgrass and clover. Maybe then grass will grow.

Good Morning!

After a couple of days of steady rain, the sun worked its way out by yesterday afternoon and I was able to get the pool cleaned out with some time to float around and relax... Throw in the return of college football, and it wasn’t a bad long weekend at all...

Back to so-so Wordling...

I don’t suppose you were watching to see how Bill Belichick would do. I heard it was a bit of a disappointment.

I’m not a big football fan. I’ll watch if I’m visiting someone who has it on.

I do root for the only New York team since I live here. I’ll have to make a choice when I move back to the Wildlands, but I can’t see becoming an Iggles fan.

I thought about watching it just to see how his team would do, but passed... I see this morning that they lost to TCU 48-14...

In recent years we actually enjoy the college game much more than the pros...

We are long suffering Cowboy fans here... it is almost masochistic at this point... most weeks actually enjoy tuning in the Houston team more than the ‘Boys...

Maybe try the Pittsburgh Steelers?

I’m thinking about the Steelers as my shadow favorite team.

I know how you feel about the Cowboys. B-I-L is a baseball fan but he lives in Denver. Baseball season is a season of mourning for the poor Rockies fans.

Boy! All of my days off hit at least 98F. I did get my gutters blown out Monday morning before things stoked up too much, and the guilty tree is grown over the roof far enough that I got to work in near total shade.

Of course, that brings up the subject of tree trimming, and not of the Holiday variety, which I’ll either take on my self, or drop a weighty sum to have done; that or be back clearing gutters, again in 6mos. Likely BOTH.

But the tree must be addressed as the Real Estate Insurance market in CA has become extremely tight; companies are looking for just about any reason to terminate policies, and trees afford them a few ready points of leverage.

I did, on Sunday, drive out to the Zinfandel Capital* of Lodi to visit my Mother. We chatted for awhile, then she mentioned some friends had been to a place that served German cuisine, which is fare that’s surprisingly difficult to find out here. I don’t know whether it was the same place as the one her friends spoke of, but we went to a place in Waterloo called “German Guys” and had a nice, very savory dinner.

And, of course
“Du bist hier, Du brauchst Bier” so... a dark lager on tap was obligatory.

They’re having festivities for Oktoberfest, and offer beer in a boot (Bierstiefel) in sizes up to 2 liters, a drinking challenge that is met with a win or a wetting.

* — Lodi vineyards boast root stock going back as far as 1888, and area Zinfandels regularly garner high praise. If you can find a bottle of 2021 Burlington Chandler Mokelumne** River-Lodi Zinfandel you’ll be well rewarded with the best the region has to offer.

** — say mo-KEL-u-mee (silent “n”)
...

Today’s offering presented SOOO many choices, but I whittled it down without either accidentally using any eliminated letters, or running out of pavement. HUZZAHH!

Wow, that is really hot for your area!

Yeah, get the tree taken care of, don’t want to give those insurance folks a reason to cancel you or raise your rates sky high...

A good German restaurant is very nice to find!!
