A law banning cars from turning right at all red lights across D.C. was set to start with the new year. But city transportation officials, who never supported the blanket ban, have pumped the brakes because the D.C. Council failed to earmark money to alert drivers to the change.
As it stands, the city will only enforce a ban at about half of the District’s 1,600 intersections, where they have erected signs notifying drivers they can’t turn right on red

Just a bunch of left wing bureaucrats trying to get any money for more boondoggles
Besides, you get to burn a lot more gas sitting at an intersection waiting to turn right.
Meanwhile the evil D.C. Council is encouraging drivers to turn to the left as much as possible.
They’re incapable of doing something of significance.
Laws are optional. It mostly depends on Who you are.
It was in the 80s that D.C. forced this change on the entire country. Lose your federal $$$ if a state didn’t do this right on red stuff
The REAL MONEY will be made by Red Light Cameras, which make something like 90% of their revenue by people failing to come to a FULL STOP before turning right at red lights.
Reigning-in the DC government and its courts must be a Republican priority. Ignore the Republican
-hating citizens’ yelps about lost home rule.
“...It mostly depends on Who you are.”
Or where you are.
In North Minneapolis (My Hood) you can turn on any color any direction from any lane just because....
Never trust a stop sign or a traffic circle.
Right turn on red is one of the few laws that is actually beneficial. So naturally, the Nannies want to ban it.
“Laws are optional. It mostly depends on Who you are”
You got that right......one particular ethnicity sees our laws as having been made in an inherently racist country so they use that as an excuse to not obey them.
Spent a week in Puerto Rico back in 2003.....I discovered while there that the sidewalk is actually a right turn lane! Lol!
True story ✋️
I bet anyone a dollar to a doughnut that this will be enforced on all vehicles with out of state tags. Specifically Maryland and Virginia. This is DC’s way of getting a commuter tax.
Odds are that the ones voting for this have relatives either making the signs or putting them up.
So, uhh, how come no one is out there with spray paint?
They do that in Australia ...
Crazy, innit?
I was working in Argentina back in the 70s. I’d arrived with Hepatitis A which I’d contracted in Mexico, but it got bad in Buenos Aires. The guy I was working with said “You’ve got hepatitis. I’ll drive you to the hospital.”
On the way to the hospital, he told me “These drivers in BA are nuts! They drive anywhere anytime they feel like it.” as he was rolling down the sidewalk!
Right turn on red is one of the few laws that is actually beneficial.

I used to feel that way until the city where I work decided to make U-turns at lights legal for the major streets that have at least two lanes in each direction. Now when you come to a red light and it all looks clear to the left, you could proceed and find that a U-turning car has just run into your driver’s side door.
But LEFT turns would be ok
DC has a big problem enforcing tickets on non-residents. I don’t how this broke down, but it gets entangled in reciprocity arguments with the suburban jurisdictions.
DC traffic tickets have become a joke. The scofflaws simply don’t pay them. Nothing happens. I WISH DC were draconian on ticketing and collection from commuters.
