“Gee. I wonder why FDR kept a mistress.”

And so did she.

Commies deserve the suffering they impose on others.

Yea, she was also the niece of Theodore Roosevelt, as I recall.

My mother was a WAVE during WWII. Once, in uniform, she was seated in a train and Mrs. Roosevelt & attendant came into the cabin across from her. Mrs. Roosevelt engaged in some polite chit-chat, but my mother said all she could think of in the moment was “that’s the ugliest woman I’ve seen in my life!”

What were those lyrics at the end of “Start Me Up”?

Knew the first half of the lyrics. Did. Not. Know. That.

He died of a massive stroke, according to what I read his cardiologist was with him , but there was not much treatment then for high blood pressure and his heart problems. When the doctor got to him his BP was something like 300/200.

The entire media was in on it from the very beginning. Early on he was able to walk some with the aid of very heavy braces by the time the war broke out he no longer had the strength for that most of the time.

He was never a Communist but ended up going along with Leftist policies bordering on Socialism. Progressive politics took over and we as a country have never gotten away from it since then. So Calvin Coolidge was the last true Conservative and Pro Capitalist President we ever had.

I saw a Military Channel show on Pearl Harbor.

According to that show even prior to Pearl Harbor FDR had zero mobility and had to be lifted into and out of bed and had to have his socks and pants put on him by others.

His “walk” consisted of:

—His son holding him up on one side.
—A cane on the other side
—A full leg brace on both legs to keep them totally stiff
—Moving the cane on one side while his son moved him on the other side
—Swinging the legs forward so he could land on them

This happened for each “step” he took.

My mother, an FDR voter, said it was common knowledge that the President had had polio and couldn't walk. But decorum was a "thing" back then, and folks weren't crass enough to talk about it. She was flummoxed when that statue was made of him in a wheelchair decades later, and thought it disrespectful. Along with the nonsense that no one knew about it at the time.

Similarly, I saw some kind of biopic on TV several years ago on Liberace. It claimed he was always fearful of being "outed" as a homosexual. Perhaps if he were living in his own bubble! All the grown-up females I knew seemed to think him cute and harmless, especially as he was a flaming pansy.

There was a a distant cousin he saw but her name was Margaret Suckley, his secretary was Missy LeHand.

Watch the movie Hyde Park on the Hudson it gives a pretty good account of things.

There is a lot of debate about who know what and when about FDR’s issue walking.

The consensus I have read is that the vast majority of the American public knew he needed a cane for walking and could not walk without some difficulty.

However they did not know he had zero mobility.

It may be like today—where some things are “known” to smart folks who pay close attention but are officially “secret”.

He was a communist who handed over Eastern Europe to his fellow traveler Stalin and caused untold misery torture and misfortune for millions of people forced to suffer under communism.

Well I got news for you the Red Army was already there and there was nothing we could do about Eastern Europe or Poland. USA was already a war weary nation like England was and there was not going to be a war against the Soviets over Eastern Europe. War in the Pacific was not yet over. So how were we supposed to get Eastern Europe away from the Soviets. The Atomic Bomb test at Trinity had not happened just yet, and we certainly did not have enough bombs to send to Europe to attack Russia, in fact I think we only had made three maybe 4.

FDR was the fifth cousin of Eleanor’s father. Her father was Elliott Roosevelt, Sr., the brother of Teddy Roosevelt.

She didn’t even have to change her name when she married.
