Franklin D. Roosevelt was married for 40 years, but as the author writes in his new biography, it was the mistress whom he had abandoned at his wife’s request that the president spent the last days with
THE HEALTH OF President Franklin D. Roosevelt was a cause for concern in early 1945. Some days he was solid and alert, the usual animated and witty conversationalist; a few hours later he could have a grey, ashen pallor, almost blue lips, severe shaking in his hands, glassy eyes and a slack jaw.
Conscious of his frailty, probably sensing that the end was near, he spoke to his son Elliot about reviving his marriage. But at the same time he made this almost impossible by renewing his affair with Lucy Mercer, the mistress he had abandoned nearly 30 years earlier when his wife Eleanor threatened the divorce that would have wrecked his political career. Now, with no thought of forcing the votes again, Roosevelt felt free to pursue his romantic relationship. Lucy was a frequent visitor to the presidential retreat at Warm Springs, Georgia, while Eleanor was kept away.

FDR was elected 4 times.
If you are paralyzed from the waist down, it is often accompanied by the medical condition called PenisNoWorky, or by the professional term Coxalimpin.
Can’t say I blame him.
Are we talking Nelson Rockefeller here?
His lovely wife should have been more than enough for him.
She played for the other team.
Seriously. With Eleanor for a wife (who was allegedly doing her own lesbian thing), and ridden with polio and other ailments, who amongst us will cast stones at FDR for enjoying the company of a female friend in his waning days?
The one I’m sorry for is Lucy. She didn’t have an axe to grind but was the one ground down.
A normal person in Roosevelt’s position would have made a decision about marriage and children and, if he chose love over a bad family situation, he would have divorced and made a 2nd attempt at having a good relationship.
Instead, he chose his ambitions over both family and the woman he loved, who loved him. He chose to hurt everyone for a political position he might have believed was more important than what he wanted. But it’s more likely he was just a narcissist who liked to feel that he was the most important person in the world.
Hope Lucy had a good life in the 30 years away from him and afterwards.
If he had polio that only affects your motor neurons. It doesn’t affect your sensory and involuntary muscle function. Lucy apparently had no problem with her muscles or movement. That’s why he was hanging out with her for years!
If you ever go to one of FDR’s retreats and take a tour you can ask the docent where Lucy’s room was. LOL The response is usually, “We are not allowed to mention that.”
How many members of the mass media knew for years that FDR was unable to walk—and never mentioned it?
Then when Pearl Harbor happened if you told the truth about FDR’s condition you would have been treated as an enemy agent.
It reminds me of the Biden coverup.
If you listen to the mass media describe themselves they tell us journalism is “truth telling” and “speaking truth to power”.
At the end of the day they do neither.
Nice picture of Jimmy Carter in a dress ...
But wait, there’s more. She had a bad attitude and was always butting into political things with embarrassing pronouncements.
No. Nelson’s mistress was Megan Marshack. He had a heart attack one night while with her and perhaps another friend at the townhouse Nelson bought her. Actually Megan bought it but it had some kind of no payback mortgage.
IIRC the medical examiner who did the autopsy was fired because he mentioned some details about Nelson’s clothing at a medical meeting.
If alive today Elenor would use the pronouns, “they/them”.

FDR is a good commie now
LOL! There really is a resemblance.
(My father told me that in his day, they used to say that one couldn’t tell whether Eleanor was coming or going...though they put it somewhat more crudely.)
Franklin, Elenore and Henry Wallis made a socialist Triumvirate. Only WW II stopped them. The RATs had to wait until LBJ to start slowly again. They were really close until this month. But don’t count them out, their efforts aren’t over.
Lol. Well he must have found her attractive at least in the beginning. It doesn’t matter how beautiful or nothing like a woman is a cheating heart will stray regardless.
As I recall fair Eleanor had a mistress of her own.
